Rev. Orlando Harriman Jr. and Cornelia Neilson appeared on the census of 7. Jun. 1880 at Jersey City, Hudson County, New Jersey. Rev. Orlando Harriman Jr. died on 30. Apr. 1881 at Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida, at age 67. Orlando was the son of Orlando and Ann Ingland Harriman. He graduated first in his class at Columbia and became a deacon in then Episcopal church in New York City. The biographer of Orlando's famous son and grandson describes the reverend as such: 'Orlando junior was a stocky, thick-chested, bulldoggish man whose early and growing baldness exaggerated his strong jaw and heavy brows. Cornelia was a frail woman with thin lips and a mouth that turned down at the corners... she had an expression that was perpetually severe, unhappy and disapproving.' (Abramson, p. 27). Orlando headed for the gold fields of Northern California in 1850 with hopes of setting up a church in booming Sacramento. He failed and had no money to afford the return to New York. 11 months after sailing from New York, he finally arrived back, having finally set up two parishes and getting money. The family moved to Jersey City when he became rector of St. John's, West Hoboken For years, he was also the rector of St. George's Episcopal,Hempstead, Long Island. His obituary was in the New York Evening Post on the 2nd and 5th of May. He died in his 68th year.
