Joseph Smith Hendricks died on 18. Jan. 1922 at Tremonton, Box Elder County, Utah, at age 83. He was buried on 20. Jan. 1922 at Richmond, Cache County, Utah. When Joseph was born both he and his mother were critically ill. The Prophet Joseph Smith was in the vicinity and Joseph's father James sent for him. Joseph Smith blessed Drusilla and she was promised health and strength. Taking the baby in his arms he asked if they had a name for him. Since they had not
selected one, the Prophet, with James assisting, blessed the baby and named him Joseph Smith HENDRICKS. The mother and baby regained their health.
Joseph at the age of nine became the main support for his family during their trek across the plains. They entered the Salt Lake Valley on October 4, 1847. Here they built a home in the fort wall and later at the Warm Springs Bath House which the family operated for the church. They made bread, served meals and operated the bathing facilities with the help of a negro servant, Bill, and two negro women, Cad and Chloe.
When Joseph married Sariah Fidelia PEW, Brigham Young performed the ceremony. Joseph took Lucinda BESS as a plural wife in 1864. These families lived in Richmond and Lewiston, Utah, and later moved to Swan Lake, Idaho where three of the children died. Joseph did contract building and
freighting for the railroad. They later moved to the Snake River country in Idaho and established the town of Marysville. Land was cleared, houses built, saw mills contructed and an irrigation system established.
Joseph became first counselor when the Marysville ward was organized. About 1915 Joseph moved back to Lewiston, Utah. He died at Tremonton at the home of his grand-daughter.
