She received information from the great-grandaughter of Wm Green Hill and Mary Hall Hill (Mary Hamilton Barnett Scott, now deceased) in a letter dated 1990:
Mary Hall, daughter of Elihu Smallwood Hall and Sophia Weston Talbot, was born 1810; died 1829; married William Green Hill, b.1801; d. 1860 in Brazoria Co., TX (her great-grandparents).
Mary and Wm Green's only child, Thomas Elihu Hill was born 23 May 1829 in Davidson Co (Nashville), Tenn. No death date given. ***
Ms. Scott goes on to say:
Thomas Elihu's mother died soon after his birth. His father, William Green Hill, left soon afterward for Texas and settled in Brazoria County. Thomas Elihu lived in Tennessee with his grandparents (Elihu Smallwood and Sophia) and when he was 16 or 17 years of age joined his father in Texas where he attended Rutersville Academy. He returned to Tennessee and graduated from Law School at Cumberland College, Lebanon, Tenn. He then went back to Texas, settling in Galveston, where he practiced law and married there in 1856. In 1862-63, he was a member of the Texas State Legislature.
She said that Thomas Elihu and Frances Ann had eight children but only named her mother, Mary Hamilton Hill, b 1864, d. 1948, married Joseph Barnett. Their daughter, Mary Hamilton Barnett, b 1907; d 1996 married 1st Mr. Munday; 2nd to Mr. Scott.
According to her letter, Thomas' widow, Frances and family, were living in Galveston in 1900 when so many people were killed by the terrible storm, but they survived it. Thomas had Gibson cousins living there that did not.
***2004 - I have just found the name of Thomas' sister who died as a baby - she probably wasn't aware of this child.
