Amelia Jane Hiteshue Methodist; Lafayette obit says, "She was a member of the Potato Creek M. E. church" at Potato Creek Meth. Church, Montgomery County, Indiana. Amelia Jane Hiteshue was born on 18. Oct. 1868 at Taneytown, Carroll County, Maryland; The FHL does not have any 1868 BRs for Carroll County, MD but we could write for civil birth record.
Record of Marriage in Clinton Cnty, State of Indiana, says that Jennie was born in Monroe, OH rather than in "Terrytown, MD"; also claims that "age next birthday" at time of marriage was 19 rather than 15. We have since found (1870 & 1880 U.S. Censuses) that Taneytown, MD is indeed the birthplace of Amelia, indicating that the MR is in error.
The Lafayette, IN newspaper obit says that Amelia was born in "Tarrytown" (state unnamed), but the real name of her birthplace is "Taneytown" (Carroll Cnty, MD). She was baptized on 3. Jun. 1870 at Middletown, Frederick County, Maryland; Christened in the Evangelical Lutheran Church. No parents listed. She resided at at Montgomery County, Indiana, bt 1883 - 1933; Obit from Lafayette newspaper says, in part:
"Mrs. Charles Ryker, 64, a resident of Montgomery County all her married life, died at her home..." She married
Charles Edward Ryker, son of
Jared H. Ryker and
Elizabeth Ann Ditch, on 27. Dec. 1883 or 23. Dec. 1883 at Colfax, Clinton County, Indiana; According to the Certif. of Marriage, "Mr. Charles Ryker & Miss Jennie Hiteshue" were married by John M. Stafford, M.E. Minister, Colfax, IN on 27 Dec 1883. According to Clinton Cnty (IN) marriage record, Jennie's place of residence at the time of her marriage was Monroe, OH, and Charles resided in Colfax, IN.
The obit from Lafayette, IN claims that Charles & Amelia Jane were married on 23 Dec 1883 rather than on 27 Dec. Amelia Jane Hiteshue was Postmistress early 1900s at Linden, Montgomery County, Indiana. She died on 24. Sep. 1933 at Linden, Montgomery County, Indiana, at age 64; NOTE: No death record for Amelia Jane exists at the Montgomery Cnty (Crawfordsville, IN) Public Health Dept -- Bob & Judy Kryter checked (June 1997) the DRs there twice w/ no success.
Died at her home in Linden, IN. Buried in Linden cemetery.
Lou Vail notes give date of death as Sept 24; Blanche Myers' bible claims death was on Sept 21, 1933, but this does NOT agree with obituary in Crawfordsville newspaper.
From obituary: "Amelia Jane had been in failing health for several years, with complications, but her sudden death was unexpected."
The following was extracted from the cited Crawfordsville obituary:
"Surviving siblings include: a sister, Mrs. Jessie Wagner, of Monroe, OH and two brothers, Russell & Milton Hiteschue of Monroe, OH."
The Lafayette, IN obit ["Linden Woman is Called by Death"] says, in part:
"... she died at her home in Linden this morning [Sunday, 24 Sep] at 8 o'clock. Surviving, besides her husband, are four daughters: Mrs. John Bridwell of Gladdens Corner; Mrs. William Walker of Madison; Mrs. Blanche Myers of Lafayette; and Miss Lulu Ryker of Linden; four sons: Albert, William, Everett, and Lester, all of Linden; one sister, Mrs. Jessie Wagner of Monroe, OH; two brothers, also living in Monroe; eleven grandchildren, and one great grandchild." She was buried at Linden, Montgomery County, Indiana; Shared tombstone for Chas. & Amelia Jane. On 26. Sep. 1933 Rev. H.M. Ivey officiating; The Lafayette, IN obit ["Linden Woman is Called by Death"] says, in part:
"The body was taken to the Fred Shanklin funeral home and returned to the family residence Sunday evening. Funeral services, in charge of the Rev. H. M. Ivey, will be held from the residence Tuesday [26 Sep] afternoon at 2 o'clock, with burial in Linden cemetery."
