Garret Kouwenhoven was also known as Garret Van Kouwenhoven. Garret Kouwenhoven was born on 11. Nov. 1726 at Flatlands, Kings County, New York. He was the son of
William Willemse Van Kouwenhoven and
Annetie Lucasse Van Voorhees. Garret Kouwenhoven married
Antje Lefferts, daughter of
Peter Lefferts and
Ida Suydam, on 1. May. 1748 at Dutch Reformed Church, Flatbush, Kings County, New York. In his will, dated Sep 13, 1777, Garret Covenhoven of Flatlands, Kings County, NY, mentioned his wife Antje; his daughters Ida, Seitje, Abigail, and Jannetje; and his sons Peter, William, Gerrit and Luke. Among other provisions were: "I leave to my son Peter for his birthright, all my Patentee right in Commons and undivided lands in Flatbush, which my father William Covenhoven did make over to me, and which he received from his father William Gerrittse Van Kouwenhoven, by a certain Instrument, dated July 28, 1727." The executors were Nicholas Schenck, John Remsen, Peter and Wiliam Covenhoven, and the witnesses were Abraham Voorhees, Peter Wyckoff, and Johannes Ditmars. Garret Kouwenhoven died on 23. Sep. 1777 at Flatlands, Kings County, New York, at age 50. His estate was proved on 15. Jan. 1778 at Flatlands, Kings County, New York.
