Garret Lane was born c Nov. 1716 at Marlborough, Monmouth County, New Jersey. He was baptized on 25. Nov. 1716 at Marlboro, Monmouth County, New Jersey. He was the son of
Mathias Lane Sr. and
Antje Schenck. Garret Lane married
Mayke Sutphen, daughter of
Jan Sutphen and
Catherine Longstreet, on 31. May. 1744 at Marlborough, Monmouth County, New Jersey. Garret Lane died c May. 1797 at Bedminster, Somerset County, New Jersey; Garret's place of burial is unknown. His will of 9 Sep 1786, probated 24 Jun 1797 directs his realty to be sold, and names his wife 'Mayey,' and the children. The Executors of the will were Simon 'Vleet' and Robert Blair; witnesses, his brother Matthias Lane Sr., the latter's son, Matthias Jr., the latter's son Matthias 3rd, and John Vliet. His widow returned to Middletown, to reside after his death, as her will of 19 Mar 1799 probated 9 Jan 1801 indicates. He died in May. 1797 at age 80. He wrote his name 'Garrett Lane'. He came to Bedminster Twp. Somerset Co., about 1746. In the assessment roll of 1787 he was the owner in that Twp. of 197 acres of land. Without a doubt, his farm was in the neighborhood of that of his brother, Matthias, (near the Larger Cross Roads). His first child, Antje, was baptized at Marlborough, and probably the others were at Lamington, but the baptismal records of that period do not exist. He attended Lamington Presy. Church as his name is found on the salary lists there in 1748, 1759 and 1782 (the intervening years are incomplete). His son, Matthias married in Monmouth, and went back there to live; some of his other children did likewise.
