He majored in Spanish and Mathematics in college. While attending Dartmouth College, he was introduced to Isabel Grier by his sister, Doris. World War II was going on when he graduated from college, and he went into the U.S. Army after graduation. Before going overseas he married Isabel. He served as a Second Lieutenant. He was stationed near Chester, England until 5 months after D-Day. Then he went to France, and was stationed in a small town near the Belgian border. Finally he was stationed in Germany. After the defeat of Germany, then went to by ship from Marselles, France, through the Panama Canal to the Philippeans. The war ended shortly after he got there, and he was assigned to Japan, where he took part in the occupation immediately after the end of the war. After his discharge from the army, he and his wife Isabel settled in Auburn, NY. Larry went to work for his father, selling cars for Henderson & Lathrop Ford. In the late 1950s he received training as an insurance agent from Travelers Insurance. He bought a small agency, renamed it to Lathrop Insurance, and operated it from his home for a while. Eventually he bought another agency and moved his business to an office in Auburn. During this period he also served as Town Clerk of the Town of Sennett. In the early 1950s he got interested in sports cars. He was an active member of a sports car club for several years, and participated in many road rallies. He bought his first motorcycle in 1965, and continued to ride until 1998. During their years in Auburn and Sennett, Larry and his family attended St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Auburn. In 1975 he sold his insurance business and bought the Still Bay Motel on Lake George, NY. He sold that in 1979, moved to Glens Falls, NY, and went into semi-retirement, working various jobs for extra money. Larry always enjoyed classical music, and sometimes attended concerts at Saratoga in the summer, and when travelling. In the last few years of his life he was active in the Unitarian Church in Glens Falls. He was a member of the Building and Grounds committee, which oversaw the aquisition and renovation of the church building on Weeks Road. He was also a member of the Social Action committee.
