Charles was educated in Bingham, NC and the public schools in New Orlea ns, and was a member of the first class of Tulane Uneiversity. He grad uated from Princeton University and Southwestern Theological Seminary. F ollowing the war he was engaged in real estate and insurance business i n New Orleans. In 1903 he came to Rayne and served as postmaster for 1 0 years. In 1916 he took up residence in Crowley, where he was secreta ry manager of the Atchafalaya-Teche Vermillion Company and served as Se cretary manager of the Association of Commerce. Mr Lyman organized the F irst Presbyterian Church in Lake Charles, LA and served as pastor for 1 0 yearsHe was among those who organized the Evangeline Area Boy Scout C ouncil and served as first chairman. He was parish chairman of the Red C ross, president of the Presbyterian Men's Club, president of the Rotary C lub, a member of the Crowley City School board, chairman of the bueildi ng committee of the First Presbyterian Church in Crowley and alderman o f the city of Crowley. He was also active in the War Dads and the Elks C lub.
