Joseph Mabie was born on 2. Aug. 1729 at Schenectady, Schenectady County, New York. He was the son of

Dorothea Pikket. Joseph Mabie married
Catharina Schuyler, daughter of
David Schuyler and
Marie (Unknown), b 1759. Bt 24. Jul. 1763 - 28. Jul. 1763 Joseph Mabie and
Cobus Maybee served with an unknown person , as members of Captain Jacob Klock's Company of Tryon County Militia in the alarm to the at German Flatts Township, Albany County, New York. On 9. Oct. 1764 Joseph Mabie was living on the Van Horne Patent between the widow Schuyler and Peter Davitse Schuyler according to a survey which divided the patent. On 1766 paid a tax of £8.
7. Jul. 1766 Joseph Mabee of Canajoharie along with Margaret, Adonia, and Phillip Schuyler mortgaged property to John Duncan of Schenectady. The property was part of the estate of David Schuyler, deceased. 'The People versus Joseph Mabie' was on the docket at Court of Common Pleas, Tryon County, New York, in 1779. Bt 1776 - 1782 Joseph Mabie, his son,
David Maybee, and his son in law, an unknown person were private soldiers in Captain Joseph Dygart's First Company of the First (Canajoharie) Regiment of the Tryon County Militia under Colonel Samuel Campbell. Joseph Mabie recieved a patent of 1213 acres of land due to his service in the Revolutionary War.. This was the family lands taken by Sir William Johnson from his grandmother. The land was then in Montgomery County (now Danube, Herkimer County) and encompassed Cojanaharie Castle which was his home, and the birthplace of his son David on 9. Dec. 1785 at Canajoharie Castle, Montgomery County, New York. On 1789 and a David Mabee (?son or brother?) were listed in the minutes of the Court of Common Pleas.

Catharina Schuyler appeared on the census of 1790 at Canajoharie Town, Montgomery County, New York; Enumeration includes two white males 16 or over, two white males under 16, four white females, no free non-whites, slave column is illegible It appears that the Anna and her husband were living with him. One of his daughters Catherine or Elizabeth was probably the other female. Joseph Mabie sold 100 acres of land to Peter B Bellinger(Bettinger) for £440. On 10. Apr. 1793 at Canajoharie Castle, Montgomery County, New York. He and
Catharina Schuyler removed to at Sullivan, Herkimer County, New York, in 1793. Claim land in Madison Co. apparently recently sold by the Oneida Nation (presumably to the State of New York) by right of pre-emption. Claim 92, in the Oneida Claims of Pre-Emption of 1794/5, is for both Jacob Schuyler and Joseph Mabee and includes affidavits by Peter Marsh and Gerrit Van Slyck that Jacob and Joseph did in fact lease the land from the Oneidas. That the land is between Chittenango and the Military Tract lands. Says that Joseph Mabee and Jacob Schuyler, David Schuyler Jr. and said Peter & Gerrit all occupy land in this area and have done so with the consent of the Oneidas. Peter Marsh, Gerrit Van Slyck, David Schuyler Jr, Hezekiah Olcott, and Jacob Price... they are all of full age and have children except the said David Schuyler, Jr. [Schuyler] On 24. Apr. 1794 at Oneida Reservation, Madison County, New York.
