Marys married life was very difficult with her husband being on the the road preaching, he sometimes was gone over a year at a time. At times the marriage was very strained and even came close to divorce on one occasion. During these times, she went to teaching school in Holyoke, Colorado and one stretch in Lamar, Nebraska. After many years of Jame's intermittent absences, he was assigned a ministers position in a church in Sheridan, Wyoming and she was able to move there with him. This lasted nearly 3 years, at which time her husband accepted a permanent pastership in Grand Junction Colorado and they once again moved. They spent the next few years here, near their son James and his family. After his retirement they moved back to Holyoke. On September 14, 1949, Mary slipped and fell on an icy sidewalk, breaking a hip. She was on her way to a prayer meeting. She never completely recovered from the fall, and shortly thereafter, they moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado to stay with their daughter, Anna. Mary passed away shortly after the move, at 7 AM on May 20, 1950. She was burried on May 24, 1950, at Evergreen Cemetery, lot T 004. 1005 S. Hancock Ave. Colo. Spr., Colorado.
