Bt 1776 - 1782 John Mebie served with his brothers, an unknown person , in Captain John Van Patten's Third Company of Colonel Wemple s Second (Schenectady) Regiment of the Albany County Militia. John was a Corporal. He left a will on 8. Jul. 1789
Will of John Mabie, of Schenectady, dated 7/8/1789, proved 2/14/1810 (John died in 1796) mentions wife (Alida) and "my four children" Peter (eldest son), Simon, Susanna and Hessy (unmarried when will was written).
John Mebie appeared on the census of 1790 at Schenectady Twp., Schenectady County, New York; Enumerated as John Maby two males over 16, no males under 16, two females, no free non-whites, and seven slaves. He died on 24. Nov. 1796 at Fifth Flat, Schenectady, Schenectady County, New York, at age 68. He was buried; John was buried on the Fifth Flat, in a cemetery that has since been lost. However, his tombstone was found and has been relocated to the Mabee Farm.
