Samuel Banta was baptized on 13. Jun. 1753 at Somerset County, New Jersey. He was the son of
Hendrick Hendrikse Banta and
Antie Demaree. Samuel Banta married
Dyna Dorland in 1775. Samuel Banta Under Captain Van Arsdale, marched to Philadelphia; from there, in ten or twelve days, he was ordered to Trenton, NJ, and whe about eight miles from Philadelphia they me some Hessian prisoners who had been taken at the Battle of Trenton (December 26, 1776). He joined the army olf General Putnam, whose headquarters were at Princeton, NJ, at which place and at Kingston he was staitoned as a gurad on the lines, and was out in scouting parties to protect the inhabitants from the incursions of the British occupying New Brunswick in Dec. 1776 at York County, Pennsylvania. He joined the Shakers at Pleasant Hill, Mercer County, Kentucky, Mar. 1807. He and
Dyna Dorland removed to at Pleasant Hill, Mercer County, Kentucky, in Mar. 1807. Samuel Banta resided at at Mercer County, Kentucky, in May. 1833.
