Laura Holm, 90, of Lytton died Thursday, October 14, 1982 at
Stewart Memorial Community Hospital in Lake City.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Huffman Memorial
Chapel
with Rev. Lyle Lutz of Emmanuel-St. Johns Lutheran Church in Lytton
officiating. Burial was in Cottonwood Cemetery.

Casket bearers were Steve Amsden, Randy White, Irving Amsden & Jon
Oehlerking.
Laura Edith Holm, daughter of Melvin & Janette Buttrick Mosher, was born
January 30, 1882 in Carroll Cty., Iowa.

She was married to Willard Spurgeon, they had 1 daughter, Ivan (Amsden).
Following Mr. Spurgeon's death she married Gus Holm, they lived in

Following Mr. Holm's death, she moved to Pharr, Texas to be with her

Emily graduated from Dunmore High School and Bloomsburg Normal School (1923). For several years she taught various schools in Fairmount Township. Later she worked for IBM for almost 30 years teaching English to IBM executives. Emily was an accomplished pianist and had a lovely soprano voice. For many years she sang in the Methodist Episcopal Church choir in Endicott, New York.
For many years Emily's beau was Sheldon McDougal. However, Sheldon and Emily never married.
Although Emily had no siblings, her Aunt Elnora was only eighteen months older than she. Frequently growing up they spent time together. When Elnora graduated from Huntington Mills High School, she went to live with her sister Eva's family to attend Scranton Business School. Emily and Elnora spent the rest of their lives as a family unit as neither of them ever married.
Emily and Elnora's lives were very full. They both had a passion for traveling and seeing the "sights." Over the years they travelled to every state except Hawaii (neither liked to fly). They filled their lives with their careers, church, travelling, and entertaining their nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Irvin Torrence Moss married Elnora Genet Moore, daughter of Robert Sebastian Moore and Evaline Gregory, on 4. Jul. 1871; by Rev. James L. Kilgore. Irvin Torrence Moss married Rose B. Moore, daughter of Robert Sebastian Moore and Evaline Gregory, on 5. May. 1897 at Maple Run Farm, Mossville, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania; by John Vroorman. Irvin Torrence Moss died on 19. Jul. 1920 at Maple Run Farm, Mossville, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, at age 71. Irvin was named after the minister then presiding over the Bloomingdale Methodist charge which included Mossville Methodist Church, the Rev. Irvin Torrence was highly esteemed in the community and quite a few children were named in his honor.
Irvin married his second cousin, Elnora Genet Moore (Irvin's grandmother Sarah Moore Moss and Elnora's grandfather John Kerr Moore were siblings]. After Elnora died in her 45th year of life, Irvin married Elnora's younger sister Rose.
Irvin, as his share of the Maple Run Farm inheritance was given Maple Run Farm at that time consisting of 100 acres. Brothers Jonathon and Marion Francis had earlier been given their 100 acre shares and had built their own houses for their families. Brother Clinton had moved to New York, living close to his Trescott cousins and Irvin was according to the agreement to pay him from the proceeds of the Maple Run farm to compensate him for his share.
Irvin's occupation was farmer and huckster. In the late 1800's it was an occupation that was quite rewarding. Irvin got to work in the outdoors on the farm and there was a lucrative market in the lumber camps and mining towns of Luzerne County. Irvin served as tax collector and school board member in Fairmount Township and was a trustee for the Mossville Cemetery.
