Crownover Feb. 18, 1921, at the Lutheran parsonage in Huntingdon with Dr. Edmund Manges officiating. Mr. Crownover preceded her in death Oct. 18, 1967. She then married Elmer W. Cramer Feb. 13, 1969, at Calvary Baptist Church in Huntingdon with the Rev. Richard Myers officiating. He preceded her in death March 21, 1977. Surviving are the following children: Jane Wall, Curwensville; Elise Whitsel, Mill Creek; June Frain, Mill Creek; C. William "Bill" Crownover, Petersburg; James "Jim" Crownover, Petersburg; and Nancy L. Wilson, Mill Creek. There are 20 grandchildren, 34 great- grandchildren and eight great-great- grandchildren. Also surviving are four step-children: Harold Cramer, Mapleton; Loey Mentzer, Mill Creek; Donald Cramer, Mill Creek; and Janet Kauffman, Kilgore, Texas. There are 13 step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Edna Mentzer; a son, Ray E. Crownover; a stepson, Millard Cramer; and a granddaughter, Judy Whitsel. Mrs. Cramer was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by three sisters and brother. She was a member of the Mill Creek Baptist Church and a charter member of the Women's Missionary Society of her church. She was employed by the housekeeping department at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital,
Huntingdon, and later was an aide in the kitchen at Juniata College, retiring, in 1967. Funeral services will be field Friday, July 21, at 10 a.m., at the Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, Huntingdon, with the Rev.
Jeffrey Winstead officiating, assisted by the Rev. Raymond Crownover. Interment will be made in the Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service on Friday. It was Mrs. Cramer's request that flowers be omitted. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mill Creek Baptist Church, P.O. Box 191, Mill Creek, Pa. 17060. She was buried on 21. As a girl Emily spent winters with her father and mother in Florida. Uncle Roy was a chauffeur for a family who wintered around Miami. Emily and her "aunt" Elnora were eighteen months apart in age and grew up like sisters. After Elnora graduated from Huntington Mills High School she went to live with her sister Eva and Emily and Elnora lived with each other for the rest of their lives.
Emily graduated from Dunmore High School in _______. She went on to graduate from Bloomsburg Normal School with a teaching degree in 1933. Emily spent several years teaching in the local school system's one room schools. For several years she was teaching at Mossville School. During that period she stayed at Maple Run Farm with her Uncle Roy and Aunt Laura.
The three Moss boys had frequently called Emily "aunt." But an incident happened when Kermit was about 7 or 8 when Emily had to discipline the three rowdy Moss boys. They were so indignant that she had spanked them that they vowed never to call her "aunt" again -- so consequently she was always just Emily.
Emily had a beautifully trained voice and played quite well on the piano. Music was one of her passions throughout her lifetime. She spent many, many years singing in the Endicott Methodist Church choir.
Emily and Sheldon MacDougal were constant companions for many years. Some thought there would eventually be a marriage. However, Sheldon later married Dorothy Frick.
For over twenty-five years Emily worked for IBM. She taught English to IBM managers. She retired from IBM in _______.
One of Emily and Elnora's passions was to travel. Though neither of them ever learned to drive, they would take bus tours and train trips. Neither one was eager to fly so that was never a mode of travel for them. They were in every state of the union, Canada, and Mexico. On one trip they met Sara and Mrs. Rodie (mother and daughter -- both southern ladies). They enjoyed each other's companionship so much that they traveled together for many years.
