Lester S. L. Paulhamus, 86, of 1201 Rural Ave., formerly of Cogan Station RR 2, died Monday, Oct. 23, 2000, in Rose View Center, following a brief illness. He and his wife, the former Grace Hornberger, observed their 57th wedding anniversary on Aug. 28. Paulhamus retired in 1991 as a dairy farmer. He was the gravedigger at the State Road Cemetery for more than 50 years. A former member of the State Road United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school, he was also a member of the Dairy Herd Improvement Association. Born Sept. 21, 1914, in Lycoming Township, he was the son of Sylvester W. and Bessie R. Kinley Paulhamus. Surviving, besides his wife, are three sons, L. LaRue, D. Jay and Jan F., all of Cogan Station; one daughter, Joy Louise Aderhold of this city; two sisters, Grace A. Lovell of this city and Dorothy I. Fisher of Jersey Shore, and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Clifton, Dayton and Torrence, and one sister, Helen Waltz. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Knight-Confer’s, 1914 Memorial Ave., with the Rev. Elwood L. Hollopeter, a retired United Methodist minister, officiating. Interment will be in State Road Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The family will provide the flowers.
