Mrs. Mary P. Metzger, 87, of 2216 Fink Avenue, died Sunday, January 6, 2002, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Donald H. and Irene Metzger, 270 Selkirk Road. She was the widow of Harold T. Metzger who died in 1961.
Mary was born March 7, 1914, in Lycoming Township, a daughter of Charles and Sallie Waltz Pepperman. She was a clerk at the U.S. Post Office in Linden for many years and she and her son managed a Sun-Gazette paper route in Old Lycoming Township for years.
A member of St. John’s United Methodist Church since 1935, Mary taught Sunday School and played piano in the Primary department. She also belonged to Pine Run Grange #250 for over 50 years. She played piano and was in the kitchen band at Newberry Senior Citizens and was an avid bowler.
Surviving in addition to her son and daughter-in-law are two grandchildren, Todd A. Metzger and Holly H. Miller; four great grandchildren; a sister, Helen S. Haire of city and a brother, LaRue E. Pepperman of Linden; and two nieces and a nephew. She was preceded in death by a daughter and a sister, Geraldine Pepperman.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday from her church, 2101 Newberry St. with her pastor, the Rev. Kraig L. Faust, officiating. Burial will be in State Road Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 1 - 2 p.m. Wednesday. The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorials to either the Building Fund of St. John’s United Methodist Church or to Susquehanna Hospice, 1100 Grampian Boulevard, Williamsport, Pa., 17701.
