Esther Doris Schackmann, 79, died at 7:05 a.m. Sunday (Jan. 9, 2005) at her home in Danville.
A celebration of her life and Catholic Mass service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, at Holy Family Catholic Church with Rev. Ted Pracz officiating. A family gathering and visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, with a rosary service at 7:30 p.m. at Pape Memorial Home & Gardens, 10 E. Williams St., Danville, IL. Memorials may be sent to The American Cancer Society 2509 S. Neil St. Champaign, IL 61820 and/or Carle Hospice Center 2300 N. Vermilion St. Danville, IL 61832. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery.
Esther was born Feb. 2, 1925, in Danville to Louis and Dorothy Madeline Snyder Pichon. Esther attended Diamond Grade school and graduated from Oakwood High in 1943. She married Charles Andrew Schackmann Sr. on Feb. 1, 1947, at Central Christian Church in Danville. He preceded her in death on April 25, 2002. She was a dedicated homemaker and a member of Holy Family Church. She enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
Survivors include seven children, Charles "Andy" Schackmann Jr. (Sandra) of Danville, Cheryl Berger (Byron) of Covington, Ind, Robert Schackmann (Julie) of Danville, Rosa Blystra (Ron) of Tucson, Ariz., Debra Allison (Rick) of Forsyth, Dennis Schackmann (Ronna) of Danville, and Eileen Schackmann (Randall Smith) of Tucson; two sisters, Pearl Lynn of Georgetown and Myrtle Hinkle (Gene) of Oakwood; three brothers: Raymond Pichon (Donna) of Westville, Kenneth Pichon (Patsy) of Oakwood, and Franklin Pichon (Pat) of Danville; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
