Mr. Ransdell, regarded by colleagues as one of the most effective and successful administrators in the Kentucky Dept. of Health, was a former vice-president of the Kentucky Jaycees and a member of the American College of Hospital Administrators, the Lions Club, the VFW, the KY Retired Teachers Assoc., and a strong advocate of the Democratic Party. After teaching in the Fayette Co. public schools, Mr. Ransdell began his career with state government in 1952 as a coordinator of social services for the state's tuberculosis hospitals. ... Before retiring in 1987 as deputy commissioner of the Ky Depet. of Mental Health, he was acting commissioner of the State Dept. of Mental Health, and a consultant to the Bluegrass Mental Health-Mental Retardation Board. G. Sterling Ransdell, 80, a retired conductor for the Southern Railway Systerm, died Thursday, Apr. 19, 1969, at Booth Hospital, Covington, after a short illness. He had lived in Erlanger for many years. Born Dec. 27, 1888 in Mercer Co., he was a son of Joseph J. and Laura Terhune Ransdell. His wife, the former Agatha Mattingly of Mercer Co., preceded him in death 33 yeras ago. He was a member of theErlanger Methodist Church. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Sarah Staudinger, Pompano Beach, FL; Mrs. Stuart (Anna Belle) Bush, Erlanger; and Mrs. T. J. (Beulah) Hopson, S. Ft. Mitchell; three sons, Arthur Ransdell, Union; John G. Ransdell, Erlanger; and Lee Ransdell, Ft. Mitchell; four brothers, Burnice Randsell, Lexington; Harvey Ransdell, Bohon, J. Lee Ransdell, Indianapolis, IN; and Hugh T. Ransdell, Dayton, OH; 23 grandcihldren and 17 great-grandchlidren. Burial in Highland Cemtery, Ft. Mitchell. He resided at at Markham, Creek County, Oklahoma, on 5. Jun. 1917. He was an oil fied driller. He died on 6. Jan. 1946 at Geneseo, Rice County, Kansas, at age 59. He was buried at Lyons, Rice County, Kansas.

Miller left Mercer Co. 1904 at age 17 and joined the Army. He was in the Army 5 1/2 years, in the Military Police. He was in the Boxer Rebellion, the Philippine War, and in Nagasaki, Japan on detached duty. After leaving the Army he worked at Pinkertons which the govt contracted for secret service work. 'While investigating the Dalton gang in Kansas City, some of them beat him up, so he left Pinkertons. He went to Oklahoma, to the oil fields, working as a driller on rigs. Not found in 1910, 1920 or 1930 census. He died at the age of 58 of a heart attack. Obituary in Harrodsburg Herald 18 Jan 1946: Miller Ransdell, formerly of this place, died at 8 pm January 6, 1946, at his home in Lyons, KS. Oldest son of the late J.J.. Ransdell and Laura Terhune Ransdell, born in Mercer Co. 18 Feb 1886. Left Mercer Co. when he was 18 years old for Kansas City, shortly afterward joined the U.S. regular army and served 6 years. Married Miss Rosie Banes [Barnes was her 1st married name], native of Oklahoma. Survived by 2 sons, Carl and Harold, one dtr Jannetta, 3 grandchildren, 5 brothers: Sterling, Bernice, J Lee, Harvey, and Hugh Ransdell. J. L. Ransdell of Indianapolis attended the services in Lyons, KS.
