Last Friday afternoon death claimed Mr. Shelton T. Ransdell, one of the best known citizens of this place. He was 73 years of age and had been in failing health for about a year, and the last few weeks his condition has been alarming, so when death came it released him from great suffering. Mr. Ransdell was a native of Mercer county, the son of the late San[Sanford Ransdell] and Margaret Cozine Ransdell. He was a member of the Christian church and had been an elder in the congregation for many years. His pall-bearers at the funeral were his fellow-officers in the church. Mr. Ransdell was well liked by everyone, was prominent in Republican circles.
Fifty-two years ago he was married to Miss Mary Amner Tucker, of this place, who survives him with four children, Messrs. Andrew, Thomas and Minor Ransdell, and Mrs. Will Smith. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon, conducted by his pastor, Rev. E. B. Bourland, assisted by Rev. F. T. McIntire, pastor of the Epworth Methodist church at Lexington. The interment was at Spring Hill cemetery, many beautiful floral tributes giving evidence of the esteem in which he was held.
