     Allen Wells Ruliffson was born on 22. Mar. 1859 at Wheatland, Monroe County, New York. He was the son of Philetus Ruliffson and Lois Wells. Allen Wells Ruliffson removed to at Summit, Steele County, Minnesota. He filed a claim on a quarter section of Government Land. C Mar. 1880 at Kingsbury County, South Dakota. He married Almira Loomis on 8. Dec. 1880 at Belchers Ford, South Dakota. Allen Wells Ruliffson died on 3. Apr. 1928 at Caledonia, Livingston County, New York, at age 69. The Dakotas were then a Territory. Daniel Loomis also left Minn. with his family and took up land in S. Dakota on the James River at Belchars Ford. Here Allen and Allie were married. They lived the first winter in a sod shanty, while he built a small house on his land, not far from the village of Lake Preston. Here their five children were born. In 1895 after years of drought and grasshoppers, he gave up. With his six good horses, a cow, and what farm equipment he possessed, etc. he loaded these into a box car. He went back to New York State, where he settled on a farm south of Garbutt, N. Y. His wife, Allie, and their five children came by way of Russell, Minn., where they stopped to visit her old friends and relatives. Later, Allen bought a farm near Caledonia, N. Y., where he died. He was an active Grange Member and an Elder in the Presbyterian Church. WellsLR, p 21.
