Arthur Schenck was born on 18. Feb. 1773 at Amwell, Hunterdon County, New Jersey. He was the son of
Capt. John Schenck and
Ida Sutphen. Arthur Schenck married
Hanna Sutphin on 12. Dec. 1792 at Hunterdon County, New Jersey. Arthur Schenck married
Sarah 2031 Van Doren, daughter of
Joseph Van Doren and
Sarah Vanderbilt, on 2. Nov. 1830. Arthur Schenck was a farmer. He left a will on 16. Feb. 1847 at Somerset County, New Jersey.
Will of Arthur Schenck
I Arthur Schenck of the county of Somerset and state of New Jersey being of sound disposing mind and memory and being desirous of making a disposition of my worldly estate which I have time and strength so to do, I make publish and declare this my last Will and Testament in manner and form Following
Item - I order and direct my executor herein named to pay and satisfy all my just debts and funeral expenses as soon after my decease as the same can be done.
Item - I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Sarah a certain bond or obligation given by one Isaac S. Ketchum to her by the name of Sarah VanDoren for the sum of four hundred dollars to her her heirs and assigns forever. I also give to my said wife the sum of thirty dollars annually to impart to her each and every year during her life by my son John A. Schenck as herein after directed. I also give to my said wife the use & possession of all that part of my dwelling house on the homestead farm now occupied by me and the use and possession of all the furniture household goods therein and the use and possession of my carriage and harness thereunto belonging during her natural life all which bequests together with the privilege hereinafter given my said wife to be furnished her by my son John A Schenck is to be in lieu and full satisfaction of her dower in my real estate.
Item - I order and direct that the furniture and household goods given as aforesaid to the use of my wife after her death be equally divided by my executor among my children by sale or thereuse as they or a majority of them my think proper.
Item - I give, devise and bequeath to my son John A. Shenck all my real estate and all the residue of my personal estate to him his heirs and assigns forever. Provided my said son shall pay the several sums of monies in the manner and at the times as he is hereafter ordered and directed all which payments to be and remain a lien on my said real estate and provided also that he my said son John shall furnish my said wife with coal and fire wood at her don sufficient and necessary for her use and shall also furnish her with meat, flour, poultry, eggs and vegetables sufficient for her comfortable subsistence. Also with the use of a house at such times as she may require the same and also the use of a good cow to be set apart and kept for her all of which is to be furnished my wife during her natural life.
Item - I order and direct my son John A. Schenck to pay to my daughter Catharine Ammerman the sum of twelve dollars cash and every year during the life of her husband James Ammerman the first payment to be made within one year after my death and after the death of the said James Ammerman to pay to my said daughter Catharine the sum of four hundred dollars to her her heirs and assigns and in case my said daughter should die before her said husband then to pay the said sum of four hundred dollars to Sarah Johanna Ammerman daughter of my said daughter Catharine when she attains the age of eighteen years.
Item - I order and direct my son John A Schenck to pay to my daughter Elisa Ann Ammerman wife of William Ammerman the sum of forty eight dollars each and every year during the life of her said husband the first payment to be made within one year after my death and after the death of the said William Ammerman to pay to my said daughter Elisa Ann her heirs and assigns the sum of eight hundred dollars and in case my said daughter should die before her said husband then to pay the said sum of eight hundred dollars equally among the children of my said daughter Elisa Ann.
Item - I order and direct my son John A. Schenck to pay to my daughter Sarah Hardcastle wife of John Hardcastle the sum of forty dollars each and every year during the life of her said husband the first payment to be make within one year after my death and after the death of her said John Hardcaslte to pay to my said daughter Sarah the sum of eight hundred dollars and in case my said daughter Sarah should die before her said husband to pay the said sum of eight hundred dollars to the children of my said daughter Sarah share and share alike.
Item - I order and direct my son John A. Schenck to pay to my grand son Arthur S. TenEyck the sum of one hundred dollars within one year after my death and to my grand sons Arthur S. Hardcastle and Arthur Schenck the sum of one hundred dollars each when they respectively attain the age of twenty one years.
Item - I order and direct my son John A. Schenck to pay to my daughter Mary TenEyck her heirs and assigns the sum of eight hundred dollars within one year after my death.
Item - My will is and I do hereby so order and direct that the receipt of either of my daughters for money paid to them shall be a good and sufficient discharge to my son John for such payments.
