ARKANSAS CITY - Patricia Laverne Lawson Tyler, 69, of Arkansas City, died Sept. 2, 1999, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church. Pastor Ted Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
The family will greet friends at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
A memorial has been established with Cowley County Community College. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Tyler was born Oct. 13, 1929, in Cedar Vale, to Clarence Hobart and Avis Irene (Drury) Sheldon. She was raised and educated in Wellington and Arkansas City and graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1947. She attended Arkansas City Junior College from 1947 to 1949, then taught in country schools in south-central Kansas until 1952.
On April, 7, 1950, she married Robert "Bob" Eldon Lawson. They resided in LaCygne and Sedan before moving to Arkansas City in 1960.
Tyler volunteered at Lincoln Elementary School as a reading tutor. She was employed as a secretary and later as director of economic development at Cowley County Community College from 1979 to 1991.
Mr. Lawson died in 1985.
On Feb. 10, 1989, she married Thomas Tyler in Arkansas City. They were active in miniature train clubs and frequently traveled to reunions of the World War II Eighth Air Force bomber group.
Tyler was a member of Hackney Community Baptist Church. She had previously been a member of Central Christian Church and a home demonstration unit.
Survivors include her husband, Tom Tyler, and a son, Clinton Lawson, both of Arkansas City; two daughters, Enid Chandler, Pleasant Hill, Mo., and Vivian Velasquez, Arkansas City; two brothers, Bill Sheldon, Arkansas City, and Tom Sheldon, Mulvane; a sister, Juanita March, Newton; two stepsons, Steven Tyler and Keith Tyler, both of Arkansas City; four grandchildren and four stepgrandchildren.
A stepson, Wayne Tyler, preceded her in death.
