Martin L. Shoup was born on 5. Nov. 1831 at Pennsylvania. He was the son of
John Shoup and
Mary Beuhler. Martin L. Shoup was baptized on 4. Oct. 1832. He married
Sarah E. Williamson, daughter of
John Williamson and
Mary Maria Holt, on 30. Aug. 1859 at Montgomery County, Ohio. Martin L. Shoup began military service on 8. Sep. 1861. He enlisted in Co C, 44th Ohio Infantry Regiment on 18. Sep. 1861. He transferd to Co C, 8th Ohio Infantry Regiment on 4. Jan. 1864. He a POW at Beverly, West Virginia on 11. Jan. 1865. He promoted to full Sergeant on 22. Feb. 1865. He ended military service in Jun. 1865 at Camp Chase, Ohio; Co C, 8th Ohio Cavalry Regiment.
