Mrs. Cozine Passes After Long Illness
Dies at Home in This City;
Had Been Bedfast About Two Weeks
Mrs. J. A. Cozine, 73 years old and widely known Audubon woman, died at her home here Thursday at 4:15 p.m. Death followed a lingering illness. Mrs. Cozine had been bedfast for the last few weeks and her children had been summoned to her bedside.
Mrs. Cozine had been a resident of Audubon county for 42 years and of the city of Audubon for 15 years. She was a member of the Methodist church of this city and of the Women's Relief Corps.
Was Native Iowan
The deceased, whose maiden name was Elisa Ann Smith, was born near West Branch on July 10, 1857. She married to John A. Cozine on Christmas day,
1877.The following spring, Mr. and Mrs. Cozine moved to a farm near Altoona, and after spending one year there, moved to a farm in Gage county,
Nebraska, near the town of Beatrice.
In 1883, they moved to Barber county, Kansas, on the boarder of the Indian reservation. Five years later they came to this county, locating on a farm near Brayton. They remained there until 1915, when they moved to the city of Audubon.
The Survivors
Surviving, besides the husband, are five children as follows: Mrs. Mabel Stemm, Menlo; Mrs. Gertrude Taylor, Audubon; Mrs. Ida Herbert, Audubon; Mrs. Goldie Wylie, San Bernardino, California, and Verne S. Cozine, Audubon. One daughter, Blanche Edith, died in infancy in 1880.
Also surviving are twelve grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and two sisters, Mrs. David Hope, and Mrs. William Hope, both of Atlantic.
Funeral services were held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the Audubon Methodist church, the Rev. Guy S. Nichols officiating. Burial took place in Maple Grove cemetery.
