June I. Silvis, 80, formerly of Sandy Hollow, Rimersburg RD, died at 4:20 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, in Beverly Healthcare-Shippenville. Born June 4, 1924, in the Village of Sandy Hollow, she was the daughter of S. Clinton and Kizzie Bailey Summerville. Mrs. Silvis worked for 15 years in the selecting department of Owens-Illinois Glass Plant in Clarion, retiring in 1969. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, knitting, reading and spending time with her grandchildren. Mrs. Silvis was a Protestant. She was married Oct. 28, 1942, to Melvin "Speedy" Silvis, who survives. They celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary this past fall. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are one daughter, two sons and their wives, and seven grandchildren, In addition to her parents, Mrs. Silvis was preceded in death by an infant son, Melvin Silvis Jr; four sisters, Ruth Anthony, Lena Hankey, Mildred Stringer and Evelyn Atkinson; and six brothers, William, Howard, Thomas, Richard, John and Milo Summerville. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family in the Varner Funeral Home of Rimersburg. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Clarion-Forest VNA Hospice, Knox, 16232.
