Enos Thayer was born on 26. Oct. 1836 at Wayne County, Illinois. He was the son of Ichabod Thayer and Lydia Macy. Enos Thayer began military service on 29. Jul. 1861; enlisted as a private in Co E, 19th Indiana Infantry Regiment. He he was wounded at the battle of Gettysburg. He ended military service on 28. Jul. 1864; Petersburg. He married Mary Elizabeth Faries, daughter of James C. Faries and Mary J. Conover, on 1. Apr. 1866 at near, Wabash, Wabash County, Indiana. Enos Thayer died on 18. Aug. 1910 at Storm Lake, Buena Vista County, Iowa, at age 73. In the death of Enos Thayer, which occurred on Thursday, August 18,1910, at his home in this city and county loses another of the old residents who has done much toward making this country what it is. Mr. Thayer had lived in the county for twenty-eight years and was well known and his death, while not unexpected, brings much sorrow.
Enos Thayer was born October 26,1836 in Wayne County Ind. where he continued to live until after the war. At the breaking out of the war, he enlisted in the Nineteenth Indiana and served with unusual distinction. We have it from other members of the local Grand Army post that no old soldier in the city saw as much service as the deceased and none performed any better. He was in many hard battles from Bull Run all the way through to Gettysburg, where he was severely wounded. At the close of the war he returned to Indiana where on April 1,1866, near Wabash, he was married to Mary E. Faries. In the fall of the same year they moved to Macon county, Ill. where they resided for sixteen years, coming to Buena Vista county February 22,1882, and settling on a farm in Maple Valley township, where they continued to live until about seventeen years ago when they moved to this city, which has since been the family home. Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Thayer, five of whom survive their father, Namely, Harry Edgar, of Hayes Township, Claudia Belle, who lived at home, Albert R. of Maple Valley, Arthur of Alta and Mrs. Ollie Grace Crouse of this City. He left seven grandchildren, Mrs. Thayer died Sept.12,1908, leaving him sad and lonely. He also leaves one sister Mrs. J.C. Jay of Pendleton, Oregon and a half sister Mrs. Minerva Priest of Munice Ind. and a half brother, Joseph Younce also of Munice.
Deceased was a honored member of the Masonic fraternity and faithfully obeyed its excellent precepts. In everything he was a good citizen and stood for what was best for the community. Hosts of friends have been won to him during his long stay in this county who know him as a man of sterling integrity, and steadfast manhood. He was all that a husband and father should be. A native shrewdness made him successful in his business dealings. In his death the city loses a good citizen in every respect. The family he has raised is sufficient evidence of his stability and character. His health began to fail almost tow years ago, Bright's disease fastening itself upon him, finally causing his death as stated above. He received the best attention and everything possible including a sojourn in Hot Springs, Ark. was done but to no avail.
Funeral service were held at the Methodist Episcopal church on Sunday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by Rev. Nathaniel Pye, D. D. They were attend by a large concourse of friends of the family, by the Grand Army post, the Eastern Star and Masonic fraternities in a body. He was buried in the Storm Lake cemetery with Masonic honors, James DeLand Officiating as Master.

Information provided by the Polot Tribune Aug.25,1910. He was buried on 21. Aug. 1910 at Storm Lake Cemetery, Storm Lake, Buena Vista County, Iowa.
