John Christian Van Doren was born on 18. Oct. 1783. He was the son of
Christianus Van Doren and
Johanna Hoagland. John Christian Van Doren married
Margaret Pittenger, daughter of
John Pittenger and
Kniertje Schamp, on 1. Dec. 1804. John Christian Van Doren resided at at Neshanic, Somerset County, New Jersey. He left a will on 9. Aug. 1848 at Somerset County, New Jersey.
bequeathed:
(1) To wife Margaret certain parts of dwelling house and (considerable) personal property; also $200 annually; (refers to Henry as "son of my son John," and Margaret, eldest daughter),
(2) To son, Christianus, wearing apparel and blacksmithing tools,
(3) "To children of my son John, deceased," farm purchased of John Van Camp and wife, 50 acres, whereon John's widow resides. Also 10 acres of woodland, and a small strip of land.
(4) To Margaret Pittinger, wife of Asher Van Doren, lot where Henry D. Johnson lately resided, 1-7/100 acres.
(5) To wife, one-half of fruit farm, and use of one acre of land.
(6) To son Christianus and his legal ch. (if any), the farm whereon he resides, 189 acres; also a lot of 5-30/100 acres.
(7) To son, Abraham, and his legal ch. "farm on which we now reside containing about 210 acres (less 5-30/00 acres above)
(8) To ch. of his son John $100 each, and to his three daughters-in-law $50 each.
(9) Rest to Christianus and Abraham in equal portions (Many other minor prrovisions)
The executors were sons Christianus and Abraham and Joseph Thompson.
He died on 27. Apr. 1849 at age 65. His estate was proved on 7. May. 1849.
