PORT ARTHUR - Mildred Vaughan Hotchkiss Daniels, 100, of Port Arthur, died Sunday, July 18, 2004 at her residence.
Born on March 27, 1904 in Bay City, Texas, she lived in Port Arthur for 61 years and was a retired homemaker.
She was united in marriage to O.T. Hotchkiss on June 24, 1926, and they had one son, Dr. Ted Hotchkiss, who preceded her in death. She later met and was married to the late Roy P. Daniels, on November 9, 1983, until his death in August of 2001.
She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Temple, charter member of Tejas Garden Club, Chapter of P.E.O., The Reading Club, Port Arthur Department Club, and Descendants of Austin's Old Three Hundreds until her death. She was a strong supporter of Texas A&M College and she established a Presidents Endowed Scholarship for Texas A&M students.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am, Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves, Texas with Rev. J.R. Thomas, pastor of First Christian Faith Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 20, 2004 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, Henry Watts Vaughan and Katie Rabb Vaughan; sister, Kathryn Vaughan Meyers and brother, Wesley Rabb Vaughn.
She is survived by her grandsons, Ted Hotchkiss of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida and Arnold Hotchkiss of Columbian, South Carolina; great grandsons, Daniels and David Hotchkiss of Columbian, South Carolina; daughter-in-law, Joanne Hotchkiss of Cedar Hill, Texas; two nieces, Kathy Petch and husband, William of Pinehurst, Texas, Carolyn Hotchkiss Leech of El Paso, Texas; two nephews, Albert Meyers of Littleton, Colorado and Watts Vaughan and wife, Kay of Bay City, Texas; great niece, Penny Hodge of Spring, Texas; great nephew, William G. Petch and wife Kathy of Pinehurst, Texas; loyal attorney and friend, James Black; caregivers, Betty Pete, Carrie Harris, Annie Charlot, and Eura Del McNeal; special friends, Ann Dodson of Port Arthur, Texas, Walter and Joyce Landry of Port Arthur, Texas, Douglas Davis of Sour Lake, Texas and her loyal dog Honey Bee; and a host of other nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Douglas Davis, William A. Petch, William G. Petch, Arthur Hammond, Albert Meyers, Watts Vaughan, Bradley Meyers, and Wesley Meyers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Walter Landry and John Spears.
