Samuel Wilson was born on 29. Aug. 1801 at on his father's farm, Level Corner, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of
Matthew Wilson and
Janet Hepburn. On 5. May. 1820 he chose his uncle, Robert McClure, as his guardian, who bound him to a blacksmith. He served his full time, three years. but did not follow the trade very long.
