Dec. 1928 at Boone County, Iowa, at age 88; In his death, this community loses one of its oldest residents, one who
had an intimate connection with the pioneer days of this vicinity. Mr.
Boone's father was the late Squire Boone, who came from Indiana bringing
his family with him, to settle here in the earliest days of the county.
It was for Squire Boone that the cemetery northwest of Luther was
named. It was located on land which was a portion of the farm upon
which Tyler Boone lived for many years. He is a distant relative of the
Capt. (Nathan) Boone who came into this county at the head of U. S.
forces in the pioneer days and for whom the county is named. This
family is from the same stock as that of the famous Daniel Boone.
     Tyler Boone was born Nov. 9, 1840 in Clay Co., Ind., and passed away
Dec. 27, 1938, aged 88 years, 1 month and 18 days. While young in
years, he moved with relatives to Boone Co., Iowa, where he has lived
ever since. His home has been in the neighborhood since coming to the
state. Before the Civil War, he was married to Miss Mary Nutt, also a
native of Indiana, but who came to Iowa when a girl. To this union were
born nine children, five of whom reached maturity. Those now living
are: Lewis and Phillip of Madrid; Mrs. Julia Bates of Sioux City and
Mrs. Minnie Hull with whom the father made his home for the past 24
years, since the death of his wife. Additional to these children, there
are surviving 14 grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren.
     Mr. Boone was one of those few remaining soldiers of the Civil war. He
was a member of the 13th Iowa Reg., Co. A. He served 13 months during
the rebellion. A twin brother was killed in the battle of Shiloh. He was buried at Squire Boone Cemetery, Boone County, Iowa.

Indiana the son of Henry Clay Boone , born 28 Jan. 1837 in Putnam , Indiana and Nancy Jessup , born 11 Nov. 1837 in Clay Co., Indiana .
Ulysses Grant Boone was married twice . Frist to Lavina ( Provence ) I do not have a birth date or place for her . However I was told that she died in childbirth and her youngest child was born in 1905 . I am not sure right now of the month and day . They had three children . Bessie Boone , born 25 Sept. 1899 , Henry Clay Boone II , born 18 Oct. 1900 ( my grandfather ) and Howard Grant Boone , born in 1905 . After Lavina died Ulysses married a Nettie ( Tankersley ) Middleton , born 21 March 1876 , who was a widow . She had two daughter's by her frist marriage . Georgia Ann Middleton born 16 Nov. 1903 ( my grandmother ) and Mary Middleton ( I do not have a birth date for Mary ) . After Lavina died the boys were sent to an ophanage in Winfield , Kansas . They were adopted by a Herman and Cora Lohaus in Cushing , Oklahoma and made to work as farm hands . Ulysses did not want to send them to the ophanage , but he could not work and take care of three small children . He planed to get them out as soon as he could find a wife to help him , but they were adopted before he could . Bessie was sent to live with an aunt . I do not know which one . After Ulysses married Nettie ( Tankersley ) Middleton they had another daughter by the name of Geneive Boone , born in 1911 in Cape Girardeau , Mo. Bessie came to live with Ulysses and Nettie , but she did not get along with Nettie . One day when Ulysses came home he found Nettie on the floor with her hands around his ten year old daughter's ( Bessie ) neck trying to strangle her . He had to pull Nettie off Bessie . Bessie was sent back to live with her aunt . Bessie was bitter over this the rest of her life .. I knew Bessie when I was a child and we use to spend a few days each summer at her home in Calif. I remember her telling the story of Nettie trying to kill her . I do not know why Ulysses stayed married to Nettie , but he did until his death on 5 Sept. 1935 in Coffeyville , Kansas . He was run down by a drunk truck driver . Ulysses was blind at the time and used a white cane . An eye witness said that the truck came out of nowhere so fast that Ulysses couldn't have gotten out of the way . He hit the windshield , tearing off one leg and received severe head injuries killing him instantly . The eye witness ( a service station attendant ) took down the license number of the truck . When the police found him he said that he thought he had just hit a stick .
When Henry Clay Boone II and his brother Howard Grant Boone were young men , they left the Lohaus farm and found their father and again lived with him and his second wife Nettie ( Tankersley ) Middleton . By this time Nettie's girls were teenagers and Georgia was infatuated with Henry Clay Boone , so she and her sister were sent to live with their grandmother Margaret ( Birdsell ) Tankersley in Florida to try and keep the girls away from the boys . Well Georgia ran away and met up with Henry Clay Boone in Winfield , Kansas and got married before anyone knew where she was . I guess it was looked down on , but they were not really related to each other . They were married on 8 Oct. 1923 . They had three children , Roy Lee Boone , born 26 July , 1924 , Eugenia May Boone , born 16 Nov. 1925 in Tulsa , Oklahoma ( my mother ) and John Walter Boone , born 10 Sept. 1927 . Henry Clay Boone II , died on 13 Sept. 1928 at St. John's Hospital , in Tulsa , Oklahoma , from a broken back , the result of a car accident . Georgia ( Middleton ) Boone remarried two more times after Henry's death . Frist to a Eugene Weatherby , then to a James Lyles . I have the death dates for them somewhere . Georgia died on 10 April , 1987 in Lamar , Missouri . Eugenia May Boone married Albert Lyman Davis on 23 Feb. 1946 , he was born 10 Sept. 1924 in Mena , Arkansas ., he died on 12 Oct. 1988 at the Vet's Hospital in Mt. Vernon , Mo. ( however their home was in Lamar , Mo. ) , Roy never married , John married Lavern Laflin , they had no children . Eugenia May ( Boone ) Davis died on 27 July , 1997 in Lamar , Mo. Roy and John Boone are still living at a nursing home in Lamar , Mo. I am Roy's legal guardian and help to look after both of them . This may be more information than you would like . "Mrs. Esther Barkuloo, who recently went to her eternal home, had but little. Her pension from the Church was most inadequate. Yet she never lost her love for the Church to her dying day. Out of her widows mite, she gave to her Lord, and before passing instructed her daughter, Mrs. Birkebak, with whom she lived, to give, after her death, $25.00 to Hamline Church. May the mantle of this sweet spirit fall upon us, teaching us that we only live as we give." Amen" By....
