DiedAt her home in Larned on Saturday, July 27, Mrs. Nannie Prescott, wife of George Prescott, age 37 years.
Miss Van Voorhis was borne in Washington county, Pa., in 1847 and resided there till coming to Kansas a few years ago. In 1879 she was married to Mr. Prescott and one child, Ella, aged two and a half years, is the fruit of this union. Mr. Prescott has two little girls by his first wife who have never known what it was to miss a mother’s tender care, having found in their second mother a patient, loving woman who gave to these dear ones all the help of her noble heart and willing hands. A father, mother and brothers and sisters are left to mourn the death which came in so untimely an hour. But the pain racked body was ever upheld by the “Everlasting arms” that were about her guiding the tired feet into paths of pleasantness and peace. The way was rough at times and the thorns of pain pierced cruelly the tender flesh. A tiny life came into existence only long enough to receive the wan mother’s kiss and the same hour the death angel breathed upon it and it lay white still. But the dear God who rules us all knew what was best and a few hours later the mother was laid to rest beside the little grave. She was a loving wife and mother and an earnest Christian woman of whom the world can truly say, “The world is better because of her having lived,
“Mourn not the slumbering dead but rather say,
Blest are the sleepers. Years may come and go;
Heads that are brown and gold may turn gray;
But they are done with earth and tears and woe.
Somewhere, we know, beyond the world of stars
They will at least have found sweet Lethe’s stream;
Sometimes we’ll meet them at God’s judgment bar,
Where life is love and love one long true dream.”.
