Col. John Brinkerhoff was also known as Jan Brinckerhoff. Col. John Brinkerhoff was born in 1703 at Flushing, Queens County, New York. He was baptized on 15. Aug. 1703 at New York City, New York County, New York. He was the son of
Derick Abramse Brinckerhoff and
Aeltje Van Kouwenhoven. Col. John Brinkerhoff married
Jannetje Van Voorhees, daughter of
Johannes Coerte Van Voorhees and
Barbara Van Dyck, on 12. Mar. 1724/25 at Fishkill, Dutchess County, New York. On 1738 he built the sotne and brick house on the south side of the main highway between Fishkill and Hopewell.
Col. John Brinkerhoff served in the NY State Militia in the French and Indian War. C 1759. He died on 20. Mar. 1785 at age 81. He was buried c 21. Mar. 1785 at Dutch Reformed Church Churchyard, Fishkill, Dutchess County, New York. His estate was proved on 26. Mar. 1785. He died on 26. Mar. 1785 at Fishkill, Dutchess County, New York, at age 81.
