Services were Feb. 26, 2000 for Burroughs Eldon Conover, 80, of Royal at Grace United Methodist church in Spencer. The Rev. Paul Hansen officiated with burial in North Lawn memorial Park Cemetery in Spencer under the direction of Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.
Mr. Conover died Feb. 22 as the result of an auto accident, south of Spencer.
Mr. Conover was born Feb. 11, 1920, in Holstein, the son of Claude and Tracy (Paulson) Conover. He received his education in Holstein and graduated from Holstein High School. He attended Iowa State University in Ames.
He married Marjorie Miller Nov. 10, 1941, in Elk Point, S.D. following their marriage, the couple lived in several rural communities including Burbank, Calif., before moving back to Iowa and settling on a farm near Dickens. She died in 1991. He joined the Army Oct. 23, 1943, and was in World War II in the Normandy Campaign, Northern France, Germany and air Offensive in Europe. He was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern theater Campaign ribbon with four Battle Stars, the distinguished Flying Cross and air Medal with three Clusters and the Unit Citation. He was honorably discharged Oct. 11 1945.
After serving in the Army, he farmed in the area for many years and was also a cattle buyer when he owned a sale barn in Spencer and operated North Y Auction.
He married Sandra Quist July 25, 1992 in Spencer. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Royal. While living in royal, he was a member of the Clay county Cattle producers and a strong supporter of the AA and attended meetings in Northwest Iowa. He had also been a 4-H leader.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Marilyn Green, of Des Moines, a grandaughter, Shannon Green of Des Moines; a sister and her husband, Marie and Virgil Johnson of Spencer; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives.
