Services were Feb. 26, 2000 for Burroughs Eldon Conover, 80, of Royal at Grace United Methodist church in Spencer. The Rev. Paul Hansen officiated with burial in North Lawn memorial Park Cemetery in Spencer under the direction of Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.
Mr. Conover died Feb. 22 as the result of an auto accident, south of Spencer.
Mr. Conover was born Feb. 11, 1920, in Holstein, the son of Claude and Tracy (Paulson) Conover. He received his education in Holstein and graduated from Holstein High School. He attended Iowa State University in Ames.
He married Marjorie Miller Nov. 10, 1941, in Elk Point, S.D. following their marriage, the couple lived in several rural communities including Burbank, Calif., before moving back to Iowa and settling on a farm near Dickens. She died in 1991. He joined the Army Oct. 23, 1943, and was in World War II in the Normandy Campaign, Northern France, Germany and air Offensive in Europe. He was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern theater Campaign ribbon with four Battle Stars, the distinguished Flying Cross and air Medal with three Clusters and the Unit Citation. He was honorably discharged Oct. 11 1945.
After serving in the Army, he farmed in the area for many years and was also a cattle buyer when he owned a sale barn in Spencer and operated North Y Auction.
He married Sandra Quist July 25, 1992 in Spencer. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Royal. While living in royal, he was a member of the Clay county Cattle producers and a strong supporter of the AA and attended meetings in Northwest Iowa. He had also been a 4-H leader.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Marilyn Green, of Des Moines, a grandaughter, Shannon Green of Des Moines; a sister and her husband, Marie and Virgil Johnson of Spencer; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives.

After the war, he returned to school at the University of Utah where he entered the School of Social Work and met his future wife Susanna Wittmann. They were married in 1946 and then moved to Denver to complete his Master's Study in Social Work. After graduation, Glenn returned to Salt Lake City and began his 33-year career at the Veterans Administration Hospital. He was the head of department of psychiatric social work at the time of retirement. He also served for 26 years in the United States Army Reserve in the 328th General Hospital. He retired as a Lt. Colonel from the reserve. Glenn also served as associate professor at the School of Social Work of the University of Utah. Glenn was a lifelong active member of the LDS church and had been a member of the Monument Park Ward for over 40 years. While at the ward, he served in many different positions. He and his wife Sue served as Welfare Service Missionaries in the Philippines for two years. He also served as a coordinator and consultant to the church welfare services program. Glenn is survived by his wife, Sue; a sister (Carole Brundage); five sons: Glenn (Pamela)-Brigham City, Utah; Rick (Donna)-Murray, Utah; Mark (Diedre)-Mooresville, North Carolina; Jon (Charla)-Manteca, California; and Kim (Karen)-Sandy, Utah. He had 17 grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 18th, at 12 noon in the Monument Park 2nd Ward Chapel, 1050 South 2000 East. Friends may call at the Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 South, Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday, one hour prior to services. Interment: Larkin Sunset Lawn Cemetery.
