He was a member of the Yorkville Congregational United Church of Christ in Yorkville, IL. John was also a former member of the Yorkville High School Board of Education and served as its secretary for many years. He was a director for the Fox Valley Production Credit Associating of St. Louis, a member of the Kendall County Farm Bureau and a Trustee of the Rob Roy Drainage District. John was also a director of the Bank of Yorkville for a number of years.
Mr. Conover was a farmer and lived on the same farm for most of his life, having moved there with his family in 1911 when he was very young. He farmed along with his son, Jack, until the untimely death of Jack in 1982. After Jack's passing, he carried on the farm operation until he was well into his 80's. John developed the first subdivision in Yorkville, Conover's Countryside, where most of the homes were built by his son, Gary. He also was involved in the development of Countryside Center and his latest development, Cimarron Ridge. John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle who will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.
John is survived by his children, Delores (John) Lies of Yorkville, IL, Gail (Robert) Fisher of Yorkville, IL, Gary (Sandra) Conover of Minocqua, WI and Diane Conover of Yorkville, IL; his nine grandchildren, John (Belinda) Lies, Jr. of Yorkville, IL, Kenneth (Carol) Lies of Naperville, IL, Linda (Noah) Panlilio of Lemont, IL, Jeffrey (Laura) Lies of Naperville, IL, Stephen (Devona) Fisher of Yorkville, IL, David (Maria) Fisher of Yorkville, IL, Michael (Kari) Fisher of Yorkville, IL, Jared Conover of Minocqua, WI and James (Jennifer) Conover of Aurora, IL; his great grandchildren, Ashley and John (Jay) Lies of Yorkville, IL, Kyle and Andrew Lies of Naperville, IL, Rachel and Cole Fisher of Yorkville, IL, Garrett, Aubrey, Evan and John G. Funeral Services for Mr. Conover will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 19, 2003 at the Yorkville Congregational United Church of Christ in Yorkville, IL with Reverend Steven Boorsma and Reverend Noah Panlilio officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Bristol, IL.
Friends may call from 5 until 8 p.m. on Friday, April 18, 2003 at the Larson-Nelson Funeral Home, 410 E. Countryside Parkway, Yorkville, IL with a prayer service being held at 7 p.m. with Reverend Noah Panlilio officiating.

John C. Conover has lived in Kendall county practically all his life.
His parents farmed the small farm on the middle road to Plano near the Rob Roy Creek. John was the only son and worked with his sisters on the farm till he was married sixteen years ago. His wife was Miss Emma G. Bertram of the Base Line Road. There are six children by the marriage from 15 years of age to the baby, about three years of age. The young people lived on two or three different farms till they bought the Gordon Nichols place adjoining the old fair grounds at Yorkville.
Mr. Conover was about 46 years of age and had attended the Yorkville public schools where he had many friends. His condition was always one of friendliness and the only peculiarity noticed by his youthful friends was that John was "set in his ways." Any idea that was command to him was carried out. Shortly after Mr. and Mrs. Conover were married there was a noticeable fact that Mr. Conover was jealous. He seemed to get the idea that his wife was unfaithful, the period coming at the time of from three to six months. He was first considered dangerous in 1915 when, on April 13, he was committed to a private sanitarium at Rockford. He was transferred from there to Peoria, July 10 and committed to Elgin, October 2 of the same year. The history of his case has been one of escapes and once a release on the habeas corpus method. Every time he was released or escaped he visited his home and his wife was worried by threats. The form of his insanity was given by the commission as paranoia with delusions of persecution. This was first discovered when he was suspicious of his wife and was soon followed by erroneous ideas as to the people with whom he was thrown. He escaped once from Peoria and twice from Elgin. Almost at once his escape was marked by his return to Yorkville and a haunting of his home, his wife and children living in fear of his appearance.
He told one of the officers of his frequent visits to Yorkville this summer and said that this was the last -- that he would settle the account and never go back to the asylum. His threats against his family were evidently not of a serious nature because he could have committed crimes against them while he was around the place. It was evidently a pure case of temporary insanity at all times when he approached home. His ideas of unfaithfulness were bases upon no foundation but were in his mind, real.
The funeral was held from the late home Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with interment at Bristol. The Rev. S. Burman Long had charge of the services. Beside his wife and children there are four sisters, all residents of Montgomery except Mrs. J. W. Torrens who lives in Oakdale, Ill., who mourn his death.
