Conover, age 98, of Yorkville, IL passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2003 at the Hillside Healthcare in Yorkville, IL. He was born on September 22, 1904 in Kendall County, IL, the son of John G. and Emma (Bertram) Conover. Mr. Conover attended Yorkville High School, where he excelled in both football and basketball. John was a member of the 1923 graduating class of Yorkville High School.
Mr. Conover was united in marriage on November 27, 1932 to the former Miss Alice Quinsey and they spent the next 63 happy years of their lives together until her passing on May 19, 1995. He was a member of the Yorkville Congregational United Church of Christ in Yorkville, IL. John was also a former member of the Yorkville High School Board of Education and served as its secretary for many years. He was a director for the Fox Valley Production Credit Associating of St. Louis, a member of the Kendall County Farm Bureau and a Trustee of the Rob Roy Drainage District. John was also a director of the Bank of Yorkville for a number of years.
Mr. Conover was a farmer and lived on the same farm for most of his life, having moved there with his family in 1911 when he was very young. He farmed along with his son, Jack, until the untimely death of Jack in 1982. After Jack's passing, he carried on the farm operation until he was well into his 80's. John developed the first subdivision in Yorkville, Conover's Countryside, where most of the homes were built by his son, Gary. He also was involved in the development of Countryside Center and his latest development, Cimarron Ridge. John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle who will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.
John is survived by his children, Delores (John) Lies of Yorkville, IL, Gail (Robert) Fisher of Yorkville, IL, Gary (Sandra) Conover of Minocqua, WI and Diane Conover of Yorkville, IL; his nine grandchildren, John (Belinda) Lies, Jr. of Yorkville, IL, Kenneth (Carol) Lies of Naperville, IL, Linda (Noah) Panlilio of Lemont, IL, Jeffrey (Laura) Lies of Naperville, IL, Stephen (Devona) Fisher of Yorkville, IL, David (Maria) Fisher of Yorkville, IL, Michael (Kari) Fisher of Yorkville, IL, Jared Conover of Minocqua, WI and James (Jennifer) Conover of Aurora, IL; his great grandchildren, Ashley and John (Jay) Lies of Yorkville, IL, Kyle and Andrew Lies of Naperville, IL, Rachel and Cole Fisher of Yorkville, IL, Garrett, Aubrey, Evan and John G. Fisher of Yorkville, IL, Reanna Panlilio of Lemont, IL, Christina and Julia Lies of Naperville, IL and Brady and Delaney Fisher of Yorkville, IL; his sister-in-law, Arlene Henry of Yorkville, IL; as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Mr. Conover was preceded in death by his parents, John G. and Emma Conover; his wife, Alice Conover; his son, John F. "Jack" Conover; his sisters and their husbands, Grace (Maurice) Grimwood, Ione (Charles) Schmidt, Janet (Walter) Shick, Alice (Jacob) Zeiter and Marion (Robert) Stone.
Funeral Services for Mr. Conover will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 19, 2003 at the Yorkville Congregational United Church of Christ in Yorkville, IL with Reverend Steven Boorsma and Reverend Noah Panlilio officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Bristol, IL.
Friends may call from 5 until 8 p.m. on Friday, April 18, 2003 at the Larson-Nelson Funeral Home, 410 E. Countryside Parkway, Yorkville, IL with a prayer service being held at 7 p.m. with Reverend Noah Panlilio officiating.
