     Riley Buchannan Cooper was born on 20. Nov. 1856 at Marshall, Searcy County, Arkansas. He was the son of Newton Cooper and Sarah Thornton. Riley Buchannan Cooper began military service c 5. Jul. 1877 at Corvallis, Ravalli County, Montana. He served as a volunteer in the 2nd Nez Perce Indian War. He was in the battle of the 'Big Hole' in Beaverhead County, Montana (Aug 9-10, 1877). He ended military service c 15. Aug. 1877. He served for 10 days in 1878. Riley was married two times before Ruth Ella. He had Dora Cooper by his first wife Esther. He had Delia Mlinda Cooper by his second wife Melinda who died. He married Ruth Ella Opie, daughter of Isaac Voorhees Opie and Hannah Jane Jones, c 1917. Riley Buchannan Cooper was shown in the census on 11. Feb. 1920 as a farmer.
