I have some information on this individual which you might be wanting. I have a letter from a Mrs.Sam Mollenhauser of Walker, Ia that was sent to my grandfather William Earl Darland of Oskaloosa,Iowa. I don't know how old this letter is but my grandfather has been gone since 1965.
This letter gives the birthdate of Carter Bailey Darland as June 13, 1859 in Montezuma, Iowa and died Dec. 26, 1937. Hewas buried at Center Point, Iowa. Wifes name was Nettie Jane Cochran, married Jan. 24, 1886.
The letter I have says Louisa Jane Kirkham was born Apr.15,1840 and died in Aug. 1863 was buried near Galesburg, Ill. in Warren Co.
Carter Bailey Darland was also known as Cart Bailey Darland. Carter Bailey Darland was born on 13. Jun. 1859 at Union Twp., Mahaska County, Iowa; At the time of the 1860 census he was 1 year old. He resided at at Iroquois, Kingsbury County, South Dakota, in Mar. 1882; An unknown source claims that while his wife was in her mid twenties, she moved to South Dakota with her parents (abt. March 1882). Their first three children were born in Iroquois, South Dakota (1887, 1888 & 1890), the next three (1893, 1894 & 1898) were born in Linn Co., Iowa. He married Nettie Jane Cochran, daughter of John Cochran and Elizabeth Hendrickson, c 1886. Carter Bailey Darland died on 26. Dec. 1937 at Urbana, Benton County, Iowa, at age 78. He died on 26. Dec. 1937 at Urbana, Benton County, Iowa, at age 78. He was buried a 26. Dec. 1937 at Center Point, Polk Township, Linn County, Iowa. Walter Darling tells the story of Ernest in his younger days as always being up for some adventure. Ernest lead a life of some considerable adventure. Walter states that during Prohibition, Ernest earned extra money by driving trucks of alcohol across the border from Canada into New York State. He developed a reputation as one of the local bootlegs, and had a distribution route established with regular customers throughout Herkimer county and perhaps beyond. Whatever type of liquor was in demand, Ernest would literally add the flavors in the bathtub to create a gin or whatever was desired, bottle, and then make his deliveries. Unfortunately his enterprise was cut short by the authorities.

Ernest used to drive for is brother Earl's bus company. There is a notation in the Little Falls paper of an accident involving Ernest and the bus. Fortunately no one was injured. It was not clear if these two tales are related.

Irving Marcellus Darling died on 7. Jan. 1927 at Salisbury, Herkimer County, New York, at age 66. He was buried at Dolgeville Cemetery, Dolgeville, Herkimer County, New York. Irving Marcellus Darling and his wife and children operated various farms in the area surrounding Curtis Corner, New York until 1913, when they purchased a 62 acre farm in the town of Oppenheim, Fulton co., near Dolgeville. After Nettie's death, he sold the farm and Irving took over operation of the Williams farm located near Salisbury Center. There he stayed until his death in January, 1927.
