Golda Marie Nielsen. U.S. Coast Guard, WWII. Paul Carlton Diehl died on 29. Mar. 2000 at Saint Joseph's Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska, at age 83. Paul C. Diehl, age 83, a life long Buena Vista county farmer, died Wednesday, March 29,2000 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Omaha following a lengthy illness.
Memorial service will be Saturday, April 1,2000 at 11 a.m. at the Storm Lake United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Swinton officiating. Grave side service with military honors by Amvets Post #66 will be prior to the funeral at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Storm Lake Cemetery. A Memorial fund has been established. Fratzke Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Paul Carlton Diehl was born May 6, 1916 in Storm Lake, the son of Ralph Carlton and Ruth Lillian (Thayer) Diehl. He graduated from Hayes Consolidated School and attend Buena Vista College and Iowa State University.
On March 1,1941 he married Golda Nielsen at Ponca, NB.
Paul served with the U.S. coast Guard during World War II. He was a life time member of the First United Methodist Church of Storm Lake, a past Lt. Governor of the Kiwanis and a member of Kiwanis Beavers of Storm Lake. He also was a member of Jewel Masonic Lodge #309 and Abu Bekr Shrine of Sioux City.
He was a master gardener and took great joy in sharing the fruits of his labor with others.
His family incudes his wife, Golda, Storm Lake; two sons, Mike and his wife, Linda, Newark Del., and Donald his wife, Mary, Storm Lake; a daughter, Jane Standley and her husband, Don, Longmont, Col; Eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Also surviving are his sister-in-law, Mary Ann Diehl, Albert City, a brother-in-law Ernie Hanover, Vinton; and Numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Doris Hanover and a brother Bob Diehl.
