Joseph was sucessfully engaged in the marble and monument business in Canton, Fulton co., Il.t Township and afterward to Banner township. This is where the resided for many years and isnton. He sold the business in 1905 and afterwards retired in one of the handsomest homes in Served as town collector and school trustee. She was a daughter of Aaron and Jane (Suydn Orion township. The following children are living: Mrs. Jennie Jackson, Banner twonship; Richard A. Ketcham, S. P. Addis of Canton is a brother and Mrs. Sarah Ruey of Breeds, is a sister of the deceden Nineteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren are living.      Captain Simon Addis was born on 30. Dec. 1745 at Northampton Twp., Bucks County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Richard Addis Sr. and Maria Wyckoff. Captain Simon Addis married Maria Hollingshead. Captain Simon Addis married Eleanor (Unknown) on 15. Dec. 1766 at North Brunswick Twp., Middlesex County, New Jersey. Captain Simon Addis served as a captain in the Middlesex County, New Jersey Militia. He married Maria Van Cleef. Captain Simon Addis resided at at North Brunswick Twp., Middlesex County, New Jersey. He married Neeltie Voorhees, daughter of Abraham Voorhees and Elizabeth Sebring. Captain Simon Addis left a will on 20. Nov. 1833 at North Brunswick, Middlesex County, New Jersey.

The Last Will and Testament of simon Addis of the township of North Brunswick, County of Middlesex and State of New Jersey, being infirm in Body but of Sound mind and memory for which blessing I most directly Thank my god. So this Twentieth doy of November in the year of our Lord on Thousand eight hundred and thirty three make and publish this my last Will and Testament in the manner and form as follows viz I do order and direct all my just debts and funeral expenses to be discharged a justable time after my decease. Item I give Will and bequeath to the heirs of my late daughter Mariah (dec'd) wife of David Nevius and to their heirs and assigns forever Five Hundred dollars to be equally divided among them share and share alike and I give unto David Nevius a Note of Five Hundred Dollars with the interest accruing thereon which I hold atainst him. Item I give Will and bequeath unto Peter Pumyea son of my late Daughter Sarah (dec'd) wife of the later Peter Pumyea (dec'd) and to his heirs and assigns forever Five Hundred Dollars and also a Note of nearly Five hundred Dollars with the Interest accruing thereon which I hold against the said late Peter Pumyea dec'd.
Item I give Will and bequeath unto my Son John the Bond and Notes I hold against him with the Interest thereon and to his heirs forever.
Item I give Will and bequeath unto the heirs of my late sons Daniel & Richard (dec'd) and to their heirs and assigns forever the Bonds and Notes which I hold against the said late Daniel and Richard (dec'd) with the Interest due thereon--- The aforesaid Bonds and Notes which I hold against John and the Late Daniel, Richard and Peter Pumyea and that of David Nevius shall not be Subject to ?______? In the settlement of my estate by my Executors hereinafter named.
Item I give Will and bequeath unto my heirs hereinafter specified the residue of my Property to be divided in the following manner Viz into five shares equally
First I give one equal share unto John my Son and to his heirs and assigns forever
Second I give one equal share unto the heirs of my late daughter Mariah (dec'd) and to their heirs and assigns forever to be equally divided among them.
Third-I give one equal share unto Peter Pumyea Son of my late Daughter Sarah (dec'd) and to this heirs and assigns forever
Fourth-I give one equal Share unto the heirs of my late Son Daniel Addis (dec'd) and to their heirs and assigns forever to be equally divided among them
Fifth I give one equal share unto Dean Addis Son of my late Son Richard Addis (dec'd) and to his heirs and assigns forever
I do Choose and appoint my Son in law David Nevius and John G. Vorhees Executors of this my last Will and Testament and do order and direct that they dispose of all my Property both Personal and Real as soon as practicable and to the best advantage.
Lastly I do hereby make null and void all Wills and Testaments heretofore mad by me.

S. V. ADDIS, born in Somerset County, NJ 26 November 1804 is a son of Daniel and Margaret (Van Dyke) Addis, grandson of Simon whose father, Richard Addis came from Great Britain and settled near the New Brunswick line, where he married a Miss Wykoff. Moving to Philadelphia, he purchased 300 acres, where the Centennial buildings stood in 1776 and 500 acres fifteen miles distant, where is now the town of Addisville. Daniel, Simon and Richard were well known citizens of New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Daniel served in the war of 1812 and died at the age of fifty-five, the victim of professional malpractice. Simon served seven years in the Revolutionary against the oppresor who would strangle a liberty-loving people. S. V. Addis' brothers and sister were Eleanor and Peter, deceased; John and Ephraim. S. V. Addis received a common school education in his native county, worked on his father's farm some years, and in ? moved westward to this township. In 1830 he married Miss Elizabeth A., daughter of John R. and Mary (Beavas) Little, natives of Hunterdon County, NJ. Her father was killed in Canada during the war of 1812. His father, James Little, was a native of Ireland--one of the many polished revolutionists which that unfortunate little island sent to America to aid in founding liberty here. To this marriage nine children were born: Mary E., in Nebraska: John L., in Iowa; Daniel and James in this county; Sarah M. in Iowa, and Irvine, in Knox County. Caroline, Catherine and Gideon are numbered with the dead. Mr. and Mrs. Addis are members of the N. E. church since their marriage. Mrs. Addis was born in Hunterdon County NJ 7 February 1860 voted for Lincoln, and has since been a firm Republican.

She died on 25. Jul. 1883 at Independence Twp., Oalkland County, Michigan. She was buried at Lakeview Cemetery, Holly, Oakland County, Michigan.
