Nov. 1862 at Manchester, Delaware County, Iowa, at age 1. He was buried in Dec. 1862 at Oakland Cemetery, Manchester, Delaware County, Iowa. Records from the Oakland Cemetery in Manchester, Delaware Co., IA name a child "Ralph" who died 30 Nov 1862--age 1 year and 1 day. This child would be too young to be the Ralph who was born in Missour in in Nov 1858 and who died 30 Nov 1862. This name in the Cemetery record must be incorrect. It is apparent that Andrew and Lucinda lost two children on this terrible day in November 1862.

Aldon B. Drake died on 18. May. Aldon B. Drake was born on 4. Sep. He was the son of Reuben Golden Drake and Matilda Ann Sanders. According to papers sent to me by Vera Knowlton, Aldon was born in 1878. This is unlikely, as his mother, Matilda would have been 51 years old.

A very faint entry in Reuben's Bible looks like it says "Aldon born Sept 4, (year not legible--looks like 1848 or 1878) Died May 18th (year not legible).

If 1878 is the correct birth date, is Aldon adopted?

Andrew J. Drake (M)
(8. Apr. 1826 - 30. Jan. 1900), #212582
Pop-up Pedigree

Andrew J. Drake was born on 8. Apr. 1826 at New Jersey. He was the son of Ralph Drake and Catherine Husselton. Andrew J. Drake married Lucinda Clark on 30. Mar. 1851 at Perry County, Ohio. Andrew J. Drake died on 30. Jan. 1900 at Manchester, Delaware County, Iowa, at age 73. He was buried in Feb. 1900 at Oakland Cemetery, Manchester, Delaware County, Iowa. Andrew's place of death unknown. He is buried in the Oakland Cemetery, Manchester, Delaware, Iowa. Funeral memorial card printed in Leipsig, Ohio indicates that he was 73 yrs 9 mos, 22 days at the time of his death, giving a birth date of 8 April 1826. The cemetery record gives a birth date of 22 May 1826. Lucinda died in Buchanan County, Iowa and is also buried in the Oakland Cemetery. The state of Iowa denies having a death certificate for Andrew.

Andrew and Lucinda were in Adair County Missouri in the 1860census. They were in Manchester, Honey Creek Twp, Delaware County, Iowa by the 1870 census. Not found in the 1880 Iowa census, but daughter, Mary Ann was married in Cedar Rapids, Linn County, Iowa in 1874.(some reports indicate that Mary Ann and Madison Ferguson were married in Manchester, Delaware County.)

Several of Andrew's siblings were in Wisconsin, and some were still in Ohio at the time of his death.

Obituary published in the Manchester Press 8 February 1900:

"On Wednesday of last week took place the funeral of Mr. Drake in the Baptist church, Rev. Ostrich conducting the service. Mr. Drake was 73 years old and was sick but a short time. He was a member of the Baptist church and a very exemplary man. He was one of the early settlers, leaving his farm on the county line south of here a few years ago. At the time of the war he was living in Missouri. We have heard him tell of his experiences with the bushwhacker. (Cantrell--of "Cantrell's Raiders) As he was one of the home guards it was then, "hurry into the Army". It cost something to be a Union man in border states, where every home was a citadel and every dooryard a battlefield. The county has lost a patriot and the community a good neighbor. He leaves a wife and a family of grown up children."

Daniel Drake was born on 8. Jan. 1822 at New Jersey. He was the son of Ralph Drake and Catherine Husselton. Daniel Drake married Amanda Hope on 23. Sep. 1855 at Possibly, Perry County, Ohio. Daniel Drake died a 1880. Daniel was found in the 1880 Census for Clay Twp, Adair Co, Missouri
His father, Ralph, died after the 1870 Adair Co., MO Census. Brother, Andrew J. moved to Iowa, and Ralph is found buried in Delaware Co., Iowa. Daniel and family probably moved, too. They are not found in the Adair Co cemeteries. Daniel also had brothers in Wisconsin and Ohio--other possiblities for his relocation.

Daniel was deaf and dumb due to measles, according to census reports.

Daniel's father, Ralph was living with his family in 1860 and 1870 in Adair Co., Missouri.

Daniel's occupation was given as Carpenter.

Vera Morgan Knowlton found a record where Daniel Drake was listed in the Ohio Institution for the Deaf and Dumb, Sunday Creek, Perry Co., Ohio. Daniel's birth date of 8 Jan 1822 is from this record. His date of admission was 15 Nov 1841. Cause of deafness given as "unknown". Ralph Drake was named as his relative. Daniel was discharged 27 January 1847. Vera speculates that this may be where Daniel learned to be a carpenter.

Institution's records for 1829-1850 published in the Ohio Genealogical Society Report Vol 24; issue 3 (1984).
