(17. Sep. 1852 - 12. Jan. 1933), #212625
Pop-up Pedigree

Emoline Drake was born on 17. Sep. 1852 at Perry, Ohio. She was the daughter of John Mellick Drake and Susanna Storts. Emoline Drake married William Guthrie Reynolds on 5. Apr. 1868 at Marietta, Wisconsin; William and Emoline had 12 children between 1868 and 1894, three of whom died young. They farmed in the town of Marietta early in their marriage, and by 1880 had moved to a farm in the town of Scott, also in Crawford County, Wisconsin. They raised grain to feed their cattle, plus a few hogs and chickens. They left the farm and moved to a home in Boscobel, Wisconsin in 1926.

Excerpted from: "The Reynolds Family History--A History of the Reynolds/McCord/Drake Families", by Deborah J. Reynolds Biesemeier. pp23-26. Emoline Drake died on 12. Jan. 1933 at Boscobel, Crawford County, Wisconsin, at age 80. She was buried on 14. Jan. 1933 at Boscobel Cemetery, Boscobel, Grant County, Wisconsin. Emoline and William had 12 children. All were born in Wisconsin between 1869 and 1894. Three of the children died young. Emoline was thirteen when she married. She kept a big swarm of bees for "pin money". Because William had "weak lungs" as a result of a chronic problem that developed when he was serving in the Civil war, most of the work of keeping the farm going fell on Emoline's shoulders. She was a strong and willful woman who devoted much time to the smooth running of her large family. In moments of relaxation she would often sit by the kitchen cook stove and whistle or hum a tune. She would move her feet in time to the music ina kind of sit-down-dance. She once told her grand-daughter, Edith, that the tune she hummed was called "The Eighth of January". Edith remembers that Emoline smoked a corn cob pipe filled with Indian tobacco.

Enoch Drake (M)
(7. Nov. 1828 - 29. Dec. 1901), #212584
Pop-up Pedigree

Enoch Drake was born on 7. Nov. 1828 at Possibly, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Ralph Drake and Catherine Husselton. Enoch Drake married Mary Lyons on 10. Feb. 1850 at Perry County, Ohio. Enoch Drake married Susannah Nutter a 1876 at Possibly, Crawford County, Wisconsin. Enoch Drake died on 29. Dec. 1901 at Crawford, Wisconsin, at age 73. He was buried at Christ Cemetery, Marietta, Crawford County, Wisconsin. Enoch is buried at Christ Cemetery--now known as Pleasant Mound Cemetery--in Marietta, Crawford, Wisconsin.

Enoch's older brother, John Mellick Drake, born in 1827, gave Pennsylvania as his birthplace in the 1860 County Census for Adair County, Missouri. His younger brother, Ralph, gave Pennsylvania as his birthplace in the 1860 & 1870 Federal Censuses for Perry County, Ohio. Therefore, it seems that Enoch was also born in Pennsylvania.

Enoch was in Wisconsin by the 1860 Census. He was in Perry County, Ohio with his father until after his marriage to Mary Lyons at that locale. They then moved to Jay County, Indiana, where Enoch leased a log cabin and 80 acres from his brother-in-law, Thomas Lyons. (from Biographical record of Jay and Blackford Counties, Indiana, pg 311-312) --Leaving Indiana, he apparently went to Wisconsin. His brother, Reuben was in Vernon County, Wisconsin by 1855.

"With great regret Manchester friends of Francis M. Drake, better known as Frank Drake, former Coffin's Grove township farmer, learned of his death, which occurred on Monday, July 15, 1935, at the family home in Cedar Rapids. Mr. Drake was 79 years of age and was widely known in this county, so long his home. Funeral services were held at the Beatty Chapel in Cedar Rapids yesterday afternoon, the Rev. Russell F. Judson officiating, and the body was brought here after the service for burial in Oakland Cemetery.
Mr. Drake was born in Adair County, MO, in 1856, and when a young man came to this county with his parents, who engaged in farming. For several years, until 1919, he made his home in Manchester, but in that year removed to Cedar Rapids. In 1887 he was married to Alice Ketterman of Urbana, with whom he lived happily. Surviving him are his widow and two children--Donald of Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Elsie Sherrer of this city. He also leaves a sister, Mrs. Mary Ferguson, of Kirksville, MO., and ten grandchildren. Many cousins in the Morgan clan have heard the story. It was never put in writing, and is not proven.

This was relayed to me by Vera Morgan Knowlton and Holly Morgan Ness, her niece.

Pop-up Pedigree

Isaiah Drake was born c 1795 at Possibly, New Jersey. He was the son of Daniel Drake and Frances Golden. LDS Ancestral File estimated birth of Isaiah at about 1800. This cannot be correct. Isaiah is named in the will of his father, Daniel. Daniel died in Jan 1800. Therefore, Isaiah was born and named well before the death of his father. It is speculated by this compiler that Isaiah was older than Ralph, because there is such a wide gap in years between the birth of sister, Charity in 1791 and the birth of brother Ralph in 1798.

Jeremiah Clark Drake (M)
(Feb. 1857 - a 1900), #212627
Pop-up Pedigree

Jeremiah Clark Drake was born in Feb. 1857 at Possibly, Adair County, Missouri. He was the son of John Mellick Drake and Susanna Storts. Jeremiah Clark Drake married Rebecca (Unknown) c 1880 at Possibly, Wisconsin; It is surmised that Clark (Jeremiah) and Rebecca were married sometime in 1880. Their first child, Clara was born 18 July 1881. Jeremiah Clark Drake died a 1900. LDS Ancestral File submitter lists a Clark Drake born in Missouri about 1857--a child of John and Susannah. This may be the same as Jeremiah. Susannah had a nephew named Jeremiah Clark (Husband of her niece, Mary Ann Storts). Jeremiah and Mary Ann moved to Adair County Missouri from Perry County, Ohio, at about the same time. Perhaps Jeremiah's middle name was Clark. On the 1860 Adair County Census, this child was listed as Jeremiah, born 1857. On the 1900 Crawford County, Wisconsin Census, there is a Clark Drake, born 1857 in Missouri, living in the same Enumeration District as John and Susannah, his parents, and Reuben, his brother. It is reasonable to assume that Jeremiah and Clark are the same person.

Mary Ann Storts was much older than Susannah. She was the daughter of John Jacob Storts/Stotts' oldest son, Daniel. Susannah was one of John Jacob's younger daughters, a child of his second marriage, which occurred when he was in his late 60's. Therefore, Mary Ann was the niece of Susannah, rather than the aunt, although the relationship probably seemed the opposite, as she and Jeremiah would be the older generation helping the younger folks get started.

John Mellick Drake was born on 22. Jul. 1827 at Pennsylvania. He was the son of Ralph Drake and Catherine Husselton. John Mellick Drake married Susanna Storts on 16. Apr. 1850 at Perry County, Ohio. John Mellick Drake was buried in 1907 at Christ/Pleasant Mound Cem; Crawford, Wisconsin. He died on 1. Nov. 1907 at Marietta, Crawford County, Wisconsin, at age 80. When John and Susannah were living in Adair County, Missouri (in the late 1850's and early 1860's) there was an unlawful gang called "Quantrill and his Raiders" terrorizing local people and forcing young men to join their gang. The Drake family was on the watch for this gang and made preparations ahead of time, hiding a packed wagon in the woods, in case the gang came in their direction. One evening as they sat down to supper, word came that the gang was approaching. Without stopping to eat, they got in the wagon and left, traveling all night so they wouldn't be followed. They had a long, slow journey through Illinois to finally settle in the Boscobel area of Wisconsin.
