Louis Faugeres Ellis was born on 17. Jul. 1843 at Sing Sing, Westchester County, New York. He was the son of
John Ellis Jr. and
Isabella Thompson. Louis Faugeres Ellis was the asstant paymaster of the U. S. Navy in 1862. He began military service in Sep. 1862; a 2nd Lt. in Co D, 131st New York Infantry Regiment. He He was sent to fight in Louisina. He won a medal for meritorius service for his service in the gulf. He became very ill during the summer of 1863. He had intermittant fever and diarrhea and was admitted to the Marine Hospital in New Orleans for nine weeks in September of 1863. After that he was sent to another hospital for thre weeks and finally granted leave in December to come home to New Brunswick, New Jersey. He was in severe pain and no better, and after letters from a physician in New Brusnswick, he was discharged. He ended military service in Feb. 1864. He married
Margaret Boyd, daughter of
John Boyd and
Anna Roome, on 14. Apr. 1864 at New York City, New York County, New York. Louis Faugeres Ellis was shown in the census on 28. Aug. 1870 as in real estate.
