ROBINSON, Ill. - Thelma Lucille Mendenhall, 79, of rural Robinson died at 12:31 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2005, in Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Ind. She was born Feb. 13, 1926, to Orval Clarence Emmons and Clara Edith Rich Emmons in Honey Creek Township, Craword County (Ill.), and was raised in Port Jackson. She worked in Allen's Sanitarium, was a housekeeper for Bill and Elizabeth Flynn, and worked with her husband at the Town 'N Country True Value Hardware store for several years and then co-owned it with her husband, Bennie, from 1977 until it burned in January 1980. She married Benjamin Edmond "Bennie" Mendenhall Jr. on June 16, 1950, and he preceded her in death April 27, 2000. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Ted Berry and Donna and Roger Dunlap, all of Robinson; one son, Kevin Mendenhall of Robinson; six grandchildren, Jill Berry Dunahee of Bridgeport, Beth Berry Killion of Vincennes, Jason Berry, Jedidiah Dunlap, Summer Mendenhall and Autumn Mendenhall, all of Robinson; six great-grandchildren, Heather Montgomery Sellers of Hutsonville, Michael Montgomery of Robinson, Miranda Dunahee of Bridgeport, Crystal and Wade Stoltz of Palestine, and Brooke Langley of Robinson; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Josh and Amanda Bollinger of Robinson; one great-great-grandchild, Josh Sellers of Hutsonville; one sister and brother-in-law, Alene and Robert Martin of Westville; one sister-in-law, Ruby Bex of Terre Haute, Ind; two brothers-in-law and their wives, Earnie and Neva Mendenhall of Oblong, and Smith "Buster" and Wanda Mendenhall of Mount Sterling; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She also was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Roger Duane Mendenhall, in 1952; one sister, B. Marie Smith in March 2005; her brother, Orval Emmons Jr. in January 1996; an infant brother; and an infant sister, Wanda Maxine Emmons. She was a member of Plymouth Christian Church and Crawford County Republican Women, where she served as treasurer from 1990 to 2004. Funeral services are 2 p.m. Tuesday in Goodwine Funeral Home, with Charles Rains officiating. Burial is in Robinson New Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and until services Tuesday in the funeral home. If friends so desire, memorials may be made to the Robinson Lions Club, with envelopes available in the funeral home.
