Her parents were notified by mail that she had died as a result of burns sustained while working in the kitchen (an epileptic), she was 13 years old. Ole is said to have killed himself due to the guilt of never being able to afford to take his wife to see her first child.

     Ole Flaten was born on 27. Jun. 1897 at Cedar Falls, Dunn County, Wisconsin. He was the son of John O. Flaten and Alma Greswick. Ole Flaten married Myrtle Eunice Karm, daughter of Alphonso Karm and Nellie A. Conover. Ole Flaten died on 22. Feb. 1935 at Superior, Douglas County, Wisconsin, at age 37; Suicide by shooting. He was buried at Riverside Cemetery, Superior, Douglas County, Wisconsin. A family feud let to all brother and sisters changing the spelling of their last names to appear unrelated. It was said that Ole retained the spelling of his father's name. He was buried as Flaten, but later his grave was renamed Flayton buried next to his mother and brother. Roy died as a Flayton. Alma changed her spelling to Flayton after her husband John died.
Ole worked on the railroad section making $48./month. At time of his death he is listed as working for the SWL & P company. At time of death the family lived at 1823 E. 9th St. Across the yard from UncleToy (Alphonse) and a block from the John Flaten home.
