Private graveside servides for Mrs. Altie Gladden Wheeler, 86, a descendant of one of Indianapolis's first settlers were held in Crown Hill Cemetary.

Mrs. Wheeler died Sunday at Hoosier Village near Zionsville. She was the great-great-graddaughter of James McCormick, who came to what is now Indianapolis in 1820. He came to the area with his brother John but had to return to Virginia for his wife, thus giving John the honor of being the first settler in Indianapolis. They built a cabin near White River and Fall Creek. Mrs. Wheeler was a native of Indianapolis and was instrumental in the platting and selling of lots of the farm of her grandfather, Matthias Garver. North Butler Terrace, a section west of Illinois and south of the canal, was sold before World War II, and Meridian Kessler terrace, north of the canal on both sides of Meridian was sold after the war. She was quite proud of the fact that members of her family had served in every war the United States fought from the American revolution through World War II. Mrs. Wheller was president of the Artificial Ice and Cold Storage CO. and COmmercial Fuel CO. when the firm was sold in the early 1930's tothe Indiana Ice and Fuel Company. She was a graduate of Miss Higbee's FInishing School for Young Women in Memphis, Tenn. She was a Gold Star mother, Mrs. Wheeler was a former president of the auxiliary of the Paul Coble American Legion and was a member of the Daughters of the American revolution. Survivers - son Garver Wheeler of Carmel: sisters: Miss Adelaide Gladden of Memphis and Mrs. J. O. Hincken of Litchfield Ill.

Mabel Reeder Cross, 91, died at the Shangra-La Nursing Home at 5:55 a. m. today. She was born in Grant County Nov. 23, 1893, to Oliver and Flora (Reeder) Glass. She married Milburn Cross in 1912. He died in 1956.

Surviving are one son, Charles Cross, Lafontaine; three daughters, Mrs. Melvin (Mary Ruth) Arnold, Fort Wayne; Mrs. S. J. (Harriet) Zachwieja, Arcadia, Fla., and Mrs. Arthur (Louise) Warner, Glasgow, Montana.

Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, a brother, Floyd Glass, Fort Ogden, Fla., and a sister, Mrs. Martin (Elizabeth) Fisher, Arcadia, Fla.

She was a life member of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union. She was a member of the Lincolnville United Brethren Church, where services will be at 2 p. m. Tuesday. The Rev. J. C. Marcus Albert Glass died on 5. Apr. 1963 at age 71. Funeral services for Marcus A. Glass, 71, 909 LaFontaine Ave., will be conducted Monday at 2 p. m. in the Hoover-Miner Funeral Home. The Rev. Dwight Conrad, assisted by the Rev. Glenn Grumbling, will officiate. Burial will be in the Ogan Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 p. m. Saturday. Mr. Glass, who has been ill for five or six months, died at 11:38 p. m. Friday in the Wabash County Hospital. His death was attributed to a heart attack..

Mr. Glass was a former employee of the King-Hipskind Company. He was a resident of Wabash for 53 years. Mr. Glass was born at Fowlerton Jan. 24, 1892 to Oliver and Flora (Reeder) Glass. He married Orie Templeton in Lincolnville Nov.27, 1912.

Survivors include the widow, one son, Paul Glass, North Manchester, one daughter, Mrs. Robert Rish, Wabash, two sisters, Mrs. Martin Fisher, Hebron, and Mrs. Milburn Cross, Lincolnville, three brothers, Walter, Huntington, Smith and Floyd, Lincolnville, five grandchildren and eight grandchildren. One son, David, is deceased.

Mr. Glass belonged to the Church of Our Savior, Methodist.

He died on 3. Apr. 1937 at Wabash County, Indiana, at age 72. Funeral Services were held at 2 o'clock Monday at the Lincolnville United Brethren church for Oliver Glass, 72-year-old farmer who died Saturday afternoon at his home five miles northeast of Lafontaine. Mr. Glass had been ill for three and a half years, and suffered a stroke two weeks ago.

Born August 21, 1864, in Rush County, Mr. Glass spent most his entire life in Wabash and Grant counties in the vicinity of Lincolnville. He had resided on the farm where he died for the last 27 years. Mr. Glass was a member of the Lincolnville U. B. Church.

He is survived by the widow; two daughters, Mrs. Mabel Cross, Lincolnville and Mrs. Elizabeth Fisher, Hebron; four sons, Marcus Glass, Wabash, Smith Glass, at home, Floyd Glass, Valparaiso, and Walter Glass, Huntington; two brothers, Thomas Glass, Gaston, and Oren Glass, Wichita, Kansas; and two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Reader, Fowlerton, and Mrs. Kate Dame, Gaston.

Smith Van Cleave Glass appeared on the census of 16. Apr. 1930 at with his parents, Liberty Twp., Wabash County, Indiana. He died on 9. Jun. 1975 at Wabash, Wabash County, Indiana, at age 79. Smith V. Glass, 79, R.R. 4, died at 2:09 p. m. Monday in the Wabash County Hospital. A retired schoolteacher, he had taught in this area for 27 years. He was a member of the National and Indiana Retired Teachers Associations and was affiliated with the Lincolnville United Methodist Church where he was a Sunday Schoolteacher, He was a World War I Veteran.

Born April 17, 1896, in Grant County, he was the son of Oliver and Flora M. (Reeder) Glass. He is survived by two brothers, Walter, Huntington, and Floyd, Lincolnville; and two sisters, Mrs. Milburn Cross, Lincolnville, and Mrs. Martin (Elizabeth) Fisher, Arcadia, Florida. Several nephews and nieces also survive.

Services will be in the Lincolnville United Methodist Church Thursday at 2 p. m. with Harold Ulrey officiating. Burial will be at Center Grove Cemetery, Lincolnville. Friends may call at the Hunter Funeral Home, Lafontaine, after 2 p. m.Wednesday.

Sep. 1980 at Lancaster Twp., Huntington County, Indiana, at age 80. Walter D. Glass, 80, Rt. 7, died Friday morning (Sept. 5, 1980) at his residence. He had been cutting down a tree at his property and the tree fell on him, pinning him to the ground. He was discovered Saturday afternoon by a neighbor.

Mr. Glass lived most of his life in Huntington County, and was a retired farmer and former schoolteacher.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Glass, Leesburg, Fla., and DeWayne Glass, North Manchester; three daughters, Mrs. Paul (Maxine) Olson, Bloomfield Hills, Mich., Mrs. A. E. (Margaret) Gall, Cary, Ill., and Mrs. Verie (Shirley) Lima, Allen, Texas; a brother, Floyd Glass, Rt. 4, Wabash; a sister, Mrs. Mabel Cross, Rt. 4, Wabash; and 13 grandchildren.

Mr. Glass was born March 23, 1900 in Grant County to Oliver and Flora Mary Reeder Glass. His wife, Eva, died Sept. 29, 1979.
Survivors in addition to those listed in the Sunday Herald Press include a second sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Fisher, Arcadia, Fla. Two brothers, Smith Glass and Marcus Glass are deceased.
