Benjamin Francis Goleanor was born on 29. Apr. 1815. He was the son of
Peter Galeener and
Christina Shepherd. Benjamin Francis Goleanor married
Louisa Jane Scofield, daughter of
John Scofield and
Mary Pratt, on 17. Feb. 1839 at Deerfield Twp., Warren County, Ohio; 7 children. Benjamin Francis Goleanor married
Adeline Elizabeth Jobes, daughter of
John Lucas Jobes and
Mary Reeder, on 18. Jun. 1861. Benjamin Francis Goleanor died on 25. Nov. 1897 at Muncie, Delaware County, Indiana, at age 82. Benjamin died of "old age" and was listed as a pauper. He was buried in a pauper's grave because no family member claimed his body: Benjamin had earlier applied for a Father's Pension from the Civil War service of his son, Peter Adolphus Taylor Goleanor, and there is an extensive pension file for him, which includes his Bible records, in the National Archives; there is nor record, however, that he was ever granted a pension.
There is an account in one of the local histories of Ohio of a man named Golenor (but did not give his first name), who was trying to make money by selling the family tombstones second-hand (which may be the reason that some of them are missing). The story called him, and what he was attempting to do, beneath contempt and would make no excuse whatsoever for his actions. Since Benjamin for his whole life seemed to be having money problems, some present-day family researchers wonder if this particular Benjamin could have bee the culprit.
