Symon Symonse Groot married Rebecca Du Trieux, daughter of Philippe Antoni du Trieux and Susanna du Chesne, in 1653. Symon Symonse Groot died c 1670 at Schenectady, Schenectady County, New York. 1st Settlers of Schenectady. Symon was one of the original settlers of Schenectady.A first settler of Schenectady (Beverwyck). Came to New Netherland
in service to the West India Company, as boatswain of the ship "Prince
Maurice." In 1645 bought a house in New Amsterdam. Came to Beverwyck
(Albany) 1651(?). Was in Schenectady 1662. On February 8, 1690 five of
his sons were taken captive by the French and Indians and carried to
Canada; they were redeemed the next year. He and his wife escaped the
massacre because they were in Albany at a baptism.

Symon and most of his sons were farmers.
